Line of Duty (2012) S6 E3
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The word for this week’s episode is “Cuckooing” boys and girls. 😄
Wow what a tangled web Mr. Mercurio is weaving with this season!
Gives new meaning to the term “Layered storyline.”

Rose (2012)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago*.

I always include this one in my Best Foreign WW2 Films list even though it is technically Post-WW2. A story of survival and love during a time of madness, this one is Gritty and visceral and not for the faint of heart.

Line of Duty (2012) S6 E5
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Wow. What a whirlwind whopper of an episode! Almost fell out of my chair when DCS Carmichael walked in! In these six seasons, Mercurio has created one of the finest, if not BEST, police procedural SAGA’s on TV.

Amazing true story of WW1 and the Royal Engineer Tunnelers.
If you have not seen it, I highly recommend Beneath Hill 60 as well (About the Australian Tunnelers)

It is a Brazilian serie, why is it in French ?

TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

When they grabbed the links they grabbed the French dubbed Version versus the Original language of Portuguese.

Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (2013)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

A Really well done German WW2 Series. The script and acting are top notch.

Le Bureau des Légendes (2015)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

S5 was hands down one of the best Seasons of The Bureau to date. Like a fine spy novel you simply did not want it to end. I hear there is a Season 6 in production with a whole new crew, so this was most likely the finale of one of the finest espionage series ever made for TV, of which we will never see the likes of again the way TV is going nowadays.

The Sicilian Clan (1969)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

A True Classic! Definitely in the Top 10 of Best French Crime Cinema. Don’t forget Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle), Le Samourai, A Cop and Rififi for starters…

Here’s how to get and use subs on PW—
Go to the show you want, then—
Click a ‘version’, then click ‘subtitles’.
Choose a sub, click ‘retrieve’, then click ‘download’.
Download to your PC.

Now, click ‘direct’ on a player that has a ‘cc’ button, click the cc button, pick and click ‘upload…’. Pick the sub file you just downloaded (the file name likely ends in .srt).
You’re good to go.

TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

I hope all you people that complain about no english subs see this.

The Pembrokeshire Murders (2021)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

This one reminded me of another ITV True Crime series called “White House Farm”. Overall, the writing (Nick Stevens and Marc Evans have done some top shelf crime series) and acting were superb but a 3 part mini-series is not enough time to develop characters on a personal level, thus the father/son dynamic (between Luke Evans character and his son) the writers attempted fell short and was more of a distraction than a contributing factor to the narrative. 4/5

You can thank Pregnancy as well (from Covid Lockdown no doubt) Tom Hardy’s wife Charlotte Riley gave birth to a son in 2019 which stopped pre-production in it’s tracks.

Really well done historically accurate WW2 movie told from a unique Estonian perspective. For another really well done War Movie from a Baltic Perspective (WW1 Latvia) check out Blizzard of Souls (aka The Rifleman)

This movie was a real treat. Inspiring and wholesome with some great characters! Tater Salad (Ron White) as the Sheriff was HILARIOUS.

Dara of Jasenovac (2021)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

During the Course of WW2 the independent state of Croatia led by the fascist Ustase Government established a Chain of Concentration Camps known as Jasenovac in order to murder Serbs, Jews and Roma people in territory it controlled. It was the only such extermination camps run by Non-Germans in Europe. Jasenovac included camps exclusively for children. An important chapter of WW2 History few know about.

De Dag (2018)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Really well done Belgian crime series. Writing and character development were top notch along with the acting. Very rarely nowadays do you see writers actually take time to develop characters to this degree in a series. I had some issues with some of the technical aspects but I suppose it could be chalked up to dramatic license. The storyboards and editing were done in a very unique fashion that I think worked really well overall. A Great Watch! 4.5/5

According to Amazon Prime:—
Audio languages: (meaning dubbed)
ENGLISH, Deutsch, Español (España), Español (Latinoamérica), Français, Italiano, Polski, Português, Português [Descrição do áudio]

Subtitles: English plus about 30 more

Which means they should be able to upload versions either dubbed in english and/or the original Portuguese subbed in English

Yes they should, which means an enterprising linker could post some proper links. Any takers?

Galveston (2018)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago.

Nic Pizzolatto is one of the best American crime series screenwriters working IMO. Season 1 of True Detective is his Masterpiece. I remember reading this novel on a trip and not putting it down for three hours. Definitely not an uplifting tale but as far as character studies go in crime novels, this is the goods.

Forget the “Fat Boy” machine that turns fire into ice how about that roll of homemade spike strips for those nosy cops? Not bad.

Spy City (2020)
TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

This is a really poor excuse for a Cold War Spy series. The script is about as unoriginal as they come, the acting was wooden, the editing was AWFUL to the point of being confusing in parts. To top it all off it just wasn’t believable as a SPY series. Both the lead character and the setting just felt fake.

Wow! Poster child for “ride or die” with daddy issues lol! Interesting start, good actors I recognize…Not that, that means much lately with all the mediocre scripts and film producer/director’s going around. I feel for all of these great actors because they can only carry a movie so far! It takes a lot of trust that your skills will not only be highlighted but used to greatly increase the quality of a film and in no way be diminished by a production. It makes me wonder how you can one fail with all this talent at their disposal? Think of all the movies in the last couple months with A list actors and how awful they have been, think how bad those movies would have been without them. I have a whole new outlook on what it takes to make a good movie, actors play an important role but only a single part of the whole equation. I’m cutting actors way more slack until things in the industry start to bounce back…hopefully with the bigger, much more anticipated and long awaited blockbuster’s coming out this summer, they will set movies on a better path!🤞

TX2Guns 2 points 3 years ago.

Yeah A Good movie or series starts and ends with a Good Script and there is a severe shortage of those right now. The recent Hollyweird trend is to try and dress up dog turd scripts with A List actors. It’s boring.

See, that’s the problem with these series, with the long hiatus between Seasons I have now forgotten 80% of Season 1 and have to go back and re-watch! Oh well, there are worse things in life…Season 2 looks to be a good’un.

The Courier (2021)
PonderThis 7 points 3 years ago*.

This movie brought back some childhood memories…..I was a young child of the 1960’s and I still remember the drills we had to do at school. We did what was called “duck and cover”. When the superintendent announced the drill, we would quickly get under our desks and cover our eyes. As if this would save us from a nuclear bomb! An air force base was about a 45 minute drive from my hometown. We often heard the sonic booms as jets flew over which of course scared the _out of us. We just knew it had to be the Russian bombers and after that first sonic boom, our teacher told us the jets were from the air base. Our parents never told us how close the US came to being nuked. It was years later in a US history class I learned how everyone was on pins and needles for days.

After One episode I am getting a vibe that is a mix between a Russian version of the X-Files and Castle Wolfenstein. High production Value for a Russian series. A cursory Google search of The True Story of the Dyatlov’s Pass Tragedy in 1959 makes for some interesting reading to be sure. Continuing on.

The Card Counter (2021)
TX2Guns 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Although I have long been a fan of Paul Schrader’s writing (this is the guy that did the script for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) his directing style is definitely an acquired taste to put it mildly. One of the first movies of his that got my attention was Adam Resurrected (again with Willem Dafoe). As others have pointed out, this is NOT a movie about card playing or card sharks (you want that watch Rounders) but more of an intro-spective journey through the mind of a former military interrogator. The dialogue and acting at times was very stiff, almost awkward. The editing and pace seemed off, maybe by design. The atmospheric soundtrack (no doubt a Scorsese influence ala’ Taxi Driver) had me grinding my teeth most of the movie. Overall, not a pleasant experience, but like I said Schrader is an acquired taste, kind of like Everclear.

American Rust (2021) S1 E1
TX2Guns 0 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I’ll give it three episodes before deciding to toss it but judging from the pilot this is going to be another one of those poorly written soap operas masquerading as a “crime” series glossed over by a semi-decent cast. Like Mare of East Town it felt like a White Trash version of Dawson’s Creek right away; they even threw in another struggling/confused teenager story line (this one has a mullett) to draw in the 20 something Netflix crowd. How original.

The Woman in the Window (2021)
TX2Guns 1 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Overall a pretty clunky script for an A+ Cast but that seems to be the norm nowadays. Psychological crime suspense is a tough genre not to rely too heavily on established tropes that can border on being dishonest for the sake of a “twist” (is the main character crazy, being manipulated to look crazy or a combination of both?) the Director did a fair job however with the Hitchcock-esque foreshadowing and texture to smooth things over. The Garden claw through the cheek at the end was worth the price of admission! 👍
