Underwater (2020)

Felt like they may have rushed into the action too soon so we don’t get to feel for these characters like we should. That’s my only complaint about this because I like the feel of an Aliens movie but underwater and bringing the bigger lore of Chtulu to life. Kristen Stewart’s personality vibes well with the horror despite people’s dislike of her acting. It’s a nice watch for anyone who likes this genre.

Fantasy Island (2020)

Don’t go into this expecting anything scary or funny or good. Turn off brain and enjoy the story for what it is, which was a mess. That ending was frustrating and threw all of the rules they established about the island out the window with twist. The action and special effects are the only redeeming quality.

Artemis Fowl (2020)

This is aimed for kids who haven’t read the book. I’m an adult who didn’t read but love these type of fantasy action flicks and kept picking apart flaws. Don’t want to spoil with what I didn’t like and after hearing about what this should’ve been in novel feel like Disney ruined this by playing it safe. Should’ve been darker and given proper character portrayal and development. A lot of the choices made were sporadic and didn’t make sense rushing relationships to push story forward. They pulled another a Wrinkle in Time and ruined what could’ve been an excellent franchise.

The King of Staten Island (2020)

What I’ve noticed with Judd Apatow is that his films fizzle out at the end not having a satisfying conclusion. You just lose interest thinking that it should’ve ended sooner instead of dragging the story. Still, I enjoyed this more than a lot of his other work because I can sympathize with characters. I’m friends with slackers like this or people dealing with issues that hinder personal growth. I appreciate the honesty and how they portrayed this alternate reality of Pete Davidson’s life.

An American Pickle (2020)

This is my least favorite project I’ve seen Seth Rogen in. I wasn’t too invested in the story from the start and expected more comedy, but what really killed it was that ridiculous last half. Putting the whole premise of perfectly preserving a functioning human in pickle brine aside, what really made no sense was that he got away with switching places. No way in hell they couldn’t tell them apart from the voice, knowledge, and DNA even with that weird coincidence his only living family member was his doppelganger. Plus the characters weren’t likable even after trying to redeem them, this was shit.

Palm Springs (2020)

Way better than expected, actually revived the whole Groundhog day concept. Funny performances from Andy and whole cast, highly recommended.

Spree (2020)

I actually know somebody who is obsessed with building a following online doing podcasts and posting vids reviewing stuff. It got worse during quarantine and like this character he isn’t famous and his opinions fall into the void. Kept thinking about it this whole movie and how social media can drive people crazy in various ways. I liked the message it portrayed and how they made the graphic moments more funny. The complete disconnection of Kurt from the real world to please people on the virtual world helped that because his lunacy was comical at times. Cautionary tale because there’s already tons of vids with people snitching on themselves trying to get clout doing illegal activities.

Max Reload and the Nether Blasters (2021)

If you’re a fan of Kevin Smith’s work this will be a treat. More light hearted than we usually see but sticks closely to his geek roots. It is low budget but knew how to work around that by not taking itself seriously. You can tell they had a good time filming which makes you have a good time watching.

Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)

This was a satisfying sequel and end to this franchise that matched the same vibe as the first 2 Bill and Ted films. You really have to give it up for these actors that after 30 years they can come back and look as good as they do. Perfect stoner comedy to just sit back with some smoke and enjoy.

Project Power (2020)

Great entertainment, I really enjoyed the acting and powers. Story may have been too formulaic but at this point with all these movies about super powers you really just look at the overall execution. It delivered on the chemistry and action that made for a fun watch.

Tenet (2020)

Christopher Nolan never disappoints and you can see why he was pushing hard for this to be released in theatres over streaming during covid. The action was on another level and they made the tired trope of time travel unique. I would never have guessed the Protagonist was Denzel Washington’s son until you hear his voice and notice the strong similarities in acting style.

The New Mutants (2020)
Kid Kryptonite 8 points 3 years ago*.

This isn’t a bad movie by any means because it had great acting, story and special effects. I really appreciated that they kept the characters very comic accurate with the surprise of a certain partner. My problem is that it didn’t live up to hype and use the characters in more effective ways. Makes no sense why Dr. Reyes is the only security or faculty in the whole facility watching over these powerful mutants. The best parts were spoiled in trailers and halfway through the storyline became predictable. It’s still a good watch and better than some other X-Men films. I’m just happy it’s finally released but sad that since the Disney merger we don’t get to see these actors portray heroes to full potential.
