Air Force One Down (2024)

Mia Smoak’s training with her dad, Oliver Queen, pays off in this film. (I know, bad comparison, but it was very reminiscent of the Arrowverse vigilante fighting action scenes.) There was so much physical action in this. Katherine McNamara has come a long way since her Shadowhunters Tv show. I enjoyed this.

From Google :
Mothers’ Instinct 2024 is anticipated to come out in theaters in mid to late 2024. Like most Neon films, Mothers’ Instinct 2024 is likely to be released at a prestigious film festival first before it debuts in the theaters. This is because Neon puts out most of its theatrical releases in this manner.

Great Expectations (2023)
moongoddess 1 points 2 months ago.

I do enjoy a varying degree of Classic Literature movie adaptations. This certainly took a chunk of creative license and butchered the original story a
great unexpected’(pun intended) 90%. Yet, I found the plot variations easy to follow. The acting was superb for the relatively unknowns, well at least to me.

If I were a college professor this adaptation would be great to present along with the original Dickens Classic Tale for a compare and contrast. If you came across this and have not read the book by Charles Dickens, I recommend reading the book first, then watch a few older adaptations. The 1946 is the most beloved edition. Another I enjoyed was from 1998. There are at least 30 film, stage, and, tv adaptations available. Many to choose from for your own personal comparing and contrasting.

Wonka (2023)
moongoddess 2 points 2 months ago.

Absolutely the best origin story! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The easter eggs in this that gave homage to the 1971 original movie were spectacular. The casting choice for Willy Wonka had me wondering if he was actually a direct descendant of Gene Wilder, who originated the role. 2 thumbs up from me.

Foodfight! (2013)

What the flicka did i just watch? LMAO. SMH. It was not that ‘enjoyable’. I wanted to stop watching it several times throughout the film. But, to make a proper assessment and review of a film I never heard of, knew about, would not be fair. Apparently not many people have stumbled upon this little secret. Of the supposed tallied voters(224 votes as of the time I watched it), the rating doesn’t go above 3. I’m shocked that it even has 3 stars.(check the video link star rating, not the main voter set of stars under the movie poster/banner. This is a thumbs down movie imho. Barely worth 1 star vote(the movie, not the video link). 1/10.

The Wonder Years (2021) S1 E19
moongoddess 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Loved this episode very much. Showed the personal angst and humbleness, yet also, PTSD, that happens to soldiers after returning home from war. The loss of a fellow unit member can change a person’s viewpoint about their own morality, values, and, boundaries they have either had or not had before experiencing such harsh turmoil in the front lines of the war. A wonderful plot arc was weaved in this episode that makes me want to hug the writers. WELL DONE!!!!!

EPIC SPOILER AHEAD!!!!!

It’s about time they gave a shout out homage to the original The Wonder Years(1988-1993)!!!

That last scene was a 6 degrees of separation connection to original program’s Cooper Family’s son, and, Winnie Cooper’s Brother. Remember that story arc? Winnie’s brother was killed in Vietnam. This episode ties the Williams family’s eldest son, Bruce, to the Cooper family’s son, Brian. They were in the same military unit.

We googled and found other places. I suggest you do the same. PW is evolving after getting ‘a big slap on their wrists’ from ‘big brother’. They are attempting to reinvent themselves while retaining the same name. A little lesson learned from Napster. Essentially they went legal and rebranded their name as Spotify. yet, PW is determined to keep their popular name. Hope it works. Meantime, stick around to chat and use the library and guide/schedule. I do hope this place doesn’t go dark. So many other’s already have.

The comments were still on my mind as well. I was thinking about it and signed in to say something and look what you did! I could not have said it better (or as diplomatically).

I would like to add that I’m really tired of people saying the show is nt Star Trek because it’s overly emotional and has an agenda that TOS or DS9 eras didn’t have. Are we talking about the same TOS that broke color and gender barriers with a Black woman on the bridge? The same show that had Dresses as BTUs for both genders? The same shows that has introduced every form of government we have on Earth for people to get a better understanding - in the form of alien species? Since TOS we’ve had transgender, non-binary, intersexed, two-spirit, pansexual and poly species. Everything LGBTQ+ but now it’s an agenda? Why aren’t people so upset that the last Trill character had a symbiod of another gender? So many things are being repeated episode after episode that have already been done before. If you do not like a story line, ok I can understand. Burnum kinda irks me now too. But please stop saying this isn’t Star Trek. It’s all about the IDIC

moongoddess 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Downright, thank you. I appreciate your support, candor, and additionally informative opinions. Yes, every Star Trek Series embraces that entire concept of debate, be opinionated, but willing to compromise in order for a society to progress and live on. That is the true essence of getting along with each other. Not enforcing 1 single agenda upon a society that in itself will end up causing the society harm and eventually to become extinct.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S4 E13
DownrightDebonaire 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

There’s a ship called The Nog. Dare I hope it’s a DS9/Voyager reference? It’s not like any other ship named after someone in Starr Trek has just a given name right?

moongoddess 6 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I assume it is a nod to Nog from DS9. After all, he was the first SFC from his species. I can only assume he made a grand impact on his generations Star Trek Adventures. Would have been great if a spin off from DS9 centered around Nog and his progression within the Star Fleet Academy and beyond.

I have watched the ‘star trek fanflix’ and enjoyed them as well. It does show promise within the Trekverse that Roddenberry is still influencing future directors, producers, video creators, actors, and, Trekkies. Though, I did have a few moments of ‘WTH’ because of the content and plot process lacking continuity of it’s own progression. But, that’s how strong popular directors and producers of movies begin. By learning how to adjust things where they were so misguided in the first place. Kudo’s to the fanflick creators and future hollywood notables.

In my humble opinion, if a person has to be negative towards a specific program, without acknowledging the heartfelt opinions of others who enjoy such programming(…especially on the chat boards), they are not true Trekkies. Nor they do not comprehend the idea of creative adaptations from the original content presented decades before it. Those commenting with negative opinion but include acceptance towards those of us posting our enjoyment of the programs show more respect to the whole of entire Hollywood productions from their humble beginnings. Don’t forget, BEN HUR was created a dozen times and it’s humble root was a 10-15 minute silent skit.

There is no law that states all adaptations MUST adhere to the exact way the original production (Star Trek 1960s) were presented. If that were the case then all theater/stage plays, movies, and musicals would still be presented with MEN ONLY…and ONLY MEN. Remember Shakespeare? All his Folios during his lifetime were staged in all entertainment venues with Adult men as the male and female and child characters. Imagine today’s society not allowing women to be actresses, producers, directors, theater administration representatives.

If some of you think we true Trekkies are being ‘sarastic’…We Are Not. All our opinions come from a true Trekkie heart and from a place we can respect and accept creative adaptations for their gallant attempts at entertaining.

If some of you think a program is mawkish drivel or filled with politi-woke stuff…perhaps it is time you stop watching it after 4 seasons, heck, even 1 season, since it bothers your political opinions that much. Also, go back and rewatch TNG, DS9, STV from the 1990s-2000s. Pull up a history book of events and issues from the 1980s and 1990s and watch and read at same time. I guarantee you that those programs also had parallel dialog, and, plot sequences/Story Arc’s, within it that reflected the political problems of that 1990s time period, too. Maybe you were probably too young to realize/notice, or, not born yet.

If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Stop trolling, bullying, being negative, and, criticizing us who are devout Trekkies. Respect everyone’s opinion. I do my best to respect the opinions of those who don’t enjoy programs. It’s not for them. But they could be kinder in their comments towards others instead of being katty and troublemaking, towards them about the fact they were emotionally affected in a good, or, sad, or happy, or bad, way with a specific episode. Seems that the art of productive Pro/Con Debate Class education has all been forgotten.

Live Long and Prosper.

By the way, a bit of Star Trek Trivia. Leonard Nemoy’s Jewish Roots inspired the Vulcan Salute. Shalom/Peace.

West Side Story (2021)
moongoddess 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I grew up watching the original 1961 production that featured/starred Rita Moreno. She portrayed Anita. Back then she had the voice of an angel, strong, mesmerizing, and beautiful. It was a joy to hear her sing in this 2021 adaptation, though, at 90 her singing is not as crisp(that comes with aging, of course). And Ansel? I had no idea he could sing; and very well. The actress who portrayed Maria(2021 version) did a wonderful job. As for the majority of The Jets and Sharks singing…they need lessons, badly. I noticed quite a few sour pitched, off key, notes. Kudo’s for their attempts. Perhaps Spielberg should have dubbed their voices like was done for the majority of cast in the original 1961 musical were dubbed. The only person to have bragging rights of singing in the original 1961 musical is Rita Moreno(Anita in 1961 original), who portrays Valentina in the 2021 version(a write in added character in this adaptation). Yes, The character of Valentina is not in the original 1961 version. Thus, there is a quite different story for Tony throughout the entire 1961 musical, and, due to the addition of Valentina in the 2021 version there are slightly different additional scenes and ending.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation.

West Side Story (2021)
SpecialEFX 0 points 2 years ago*.

Ending was a little vague. Since she is last one holding the gun does Rita Velveeta end up arrested and sent to Rikers Island? I hope there’s a sequel.

moongoddess 0 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Perhaps watching the 1961 original will help. Rita Moreno’s character in this 2021 version, Valentina, was written in by Spielberg as an honorary added cameo-character because Rita Moreno portrayed Anita in the Original musical. In the original adaptation, there are no parents(or grandparents/aunts/uncles) present in it at all. Also in the original, Rita was the only actress to sing the songs, while all other characters were dubbed with other singers voices. This 2021 ending is not quite exactly how the original version ends. If you want to watch that version check it out here. I’m sure you can search and find a streaming service or other website to watch it:

Discovery is just too much everything. Seems like they threw everything they could at it to make it a success. Time travel, multi-verse, related to spock, end of universe, etc. and nowhere to go now. And the woke-ness, that is fine, but it is overloaded. and lead character all over the place, she a rebel, a captain, she wise like spock, breaks the rules, but stands for the rules, etc, etc…. It just tries too hard and doesnt have a Star Trek feel for me.

I enjoy Discovery, but have cringe worthy ‘wtf’ moments concerning the dialog. I do understand your POV, and can empathize. Remember Deep Space Nine? When it was originally airing, I could not watch it, I thought it was crap star trek writing, and, acting. I binge watched it 2 years ago and had a better appreciation for it but still thought the ‘acting’ was sub par for a bunch of characters. The heartfelt discussions the Conner’s have with each other, their expression of angst, anger, fear, PTSD, really brought it all home for me. Years of counseling help one adjust to moving forward in life. A person never forgets the sounds a traumatic crime scene make at time of event. With counseling, they just ‘learn’ to adjust, cope, process, and move on towards a healthier productive style of living.

There’s also archeological evidence they were as far south as what is known today as New York. I believe that a sunken ship or 2 is part of the ground that built Manhattan Island. Just not clear on if they were sunk in that location, or, moved from other locations and used as part of the base for the scrap heap that is cemented under the subway system, and, other underground tunnel systems throughout Manhattan. Historical finds are always intriguing. Never know what you may find when diggin’ up mother earth, or, snorkling her oceans.

Not the same high quality of the Vikings from the history channel, but not bad. I thought the accents were not that great, English accents sounded American to me.

moongoddess 5 points 2 years ago.

I noticed that as well. But like all languages throughout history, linguistics, syntax, vocabulary, spellings always change. Why? Because of the nomadic lifetyles all human beings have. When a person moves to a different location, living there for decades, they are bound to lose their natural born/raised native accent and gain a new accent from the residential location they set up their life roots at. The Nordic/Viking accents were not strong, either.

A fantastic Off-Broadway Musical interpretation of a Classic and Epic tale that was originally a stage play and happens to be 125 years old this year. I can still picture Kevin Kline with his outstanding portrayal as Cyrano, and, Jennifer Gardner, as Roxanne. I need to revisit that ol’ PBS Great Performances made for tv adaptation which sticks more solidly to the original written script than this musical adaptation did. Which I totally understand. Even movies adapted from books take creative liberties.

This was absolutely brilliantly produced and entertaining. I grew up in a musical family and have a strong appreciation for every adaptation of stage play, musical, movie, tv shows, etc. Every generations actors and actresses deserve applause for their interpretations of character. Each new cast always brings something new, different, yet, with a touch of similarity to the very first original production from bygone decades, centuries. Well done.

One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (TV Special 2021) (2021)
moongoddess -1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Get your stock of kleenex out. I loved this epic swansong for Tony Bennett. 95 years old. Sad, he has Dementia/Alzheimers. I grew uplistening to his music, watching his programs, and, other entertaining programs he was featured on. My parents played records of his. I listened to his crooning on the radio. And as I got older and gravitated to the music online, I periodically put his ditties on for an afternoon.

An article in AARP magazine, and many other websites, print mags, e-mags, etc., picked up on his interview he did last year when he announced he had Dementia/Alzheimers. He has trouble remembering lyrics to some songs. That’s what the disease does, it robs the brain of complete cognizance and recall. Grateful he still has some cognizant and recall ability. Albeit I’m assuming he had an earpiece with a person feeding him the words to the lyrics of the songs. HE DID FANTASTIC!!!

His health has deteriorated. Very telling as he was holding onto the piano. And at the end of the program was escorted off stage by Lady Gaga. His swagger has slowed significantly, as you will/did see as they walked super slow off the stage, he’d stop, turn, and give a wave/bow to the adoring family, fans, guests, celebrities, and musician celebrities in the audience.

What a wonderful way to officially ‘retire’(though he’d retired a while ago) and be honored by peers, family, fans.
