The Guardians of Justice (2022)

Yes. Very Troma but with better video cameras. lol

citylion 1 points 2 years ago.

Sure but considering the span of time not much of an improvement relative to that.

OMG what a dull show.

I guess you missed the point there…

This reminds me of early Troma mixed with so much other stuff. Weird and definite camp, verdict is still out whether good or not…

Definitely. Awesome slow burn…

This felt different 10 minutes out of the gate, in a good way. The whole episode also felt more cinematic. It felt like a season finale even though we have one left. Wondering if there was a change in the writing team because something felt different, again in a good way, this time around. Loved the “three hour tour” dig.

Well, this seems pretty awesome so far…

what a choice,a lil metrosexual chainmail shirt or a freaking cool lightsaber!

citylion 1 points 2 years ago.

You just made the coupe to the rocks glass comparison. Way to go, JM. In that comparison the lightsaber doesn’t at all resemble a phallic item….(ROLF)

Wolf Like Me (2022)
citylion 3 points 2 years ago.

Well, that was a lot of fun. Not sure what all the sour grapes were about from the other reviewers. It’s not Oscar Wilde but it doesn’t have to be…

This is cute and fun. I’m up for this ride.

Some backpedaling seemed to occur in this episode but overall not bad. Looking forward to the next one.

Well, that got dark and fragile real quickly.

Station Eleven (2021) S1 E9

This was an awesome episode. Even most this show is heavy this was such an up and down rollercoaster emotionally. Maybe one of my favorites so far.

Emily in Paris (2020)
citylion 0 points 2 years ago.

It’s a cartoon. It’s a soap for younger folks. It’s exaggerated color palettes and emotionally self indulgent well to dos….
MTV and sex and the city aesthetics had a baby and France is rightfully mad about it.
I get it though. It’s a guilty pleasure dream world and we’re all in need of a little white noise at this time.

Doctor Who (2005)
Tardis3162 8 points 2 years ago.

I don’t understand why people are blaming Jodie Whittaker for the decline. Granted she isn’t who I would have chosen for the first female Doctor, I would have liked to see someone like Michelle Ryan. That would have worked perfectly off of Peter Capaldi’s bit of the Doctor sometimes using the faces of people he’s meet before. Jodie doesn’t make my top 5 or anything like that. However that being said I think she has done great with what she has been given. The REAL problem with Jodie’s three seasons (well two so far) is 100% Chris Chibnall…SO BAD!!! I hear he’s leaving when Jodie leaves after this upcoming season. And I couldn’t be happier!!

citylion 1 points 2 years ago.

Well, apparently there was a whole shift in production/writing crew that came with Whittaker apparently on her team’s (not her) request. It’s been a politics s*%t storm as far as the Whovian universe is concerned and a lot of criticism has been thrown about because of said changes.
None of it has been said to be good changes. This of course is rumor mill so take what is said with a grain of salt please.

Don't Look Up (2021)
rickdirtysanchez 1 points 2 years ago.

It’s more of a “dark comedy.” Adam McCay is a great comedic writer/director, but the laughs were because it is a very dark subject. I hope the US government doesn’t ever act in this way.

citylion 11 points 2 years ago.

I mean they basically already have with their let’s wait and see reaction in March 2020.

So this was essentially Idiocracy 2.0 or for this generation. Not bad, not great. I’ll say that it was a fun ride but depressing in the grand scheme of things. The actors I’m sure had a ball getting boat loads of money thrown at themselves making it. Good for them.
I did enjoy the very end as well.
Also I’m behind part of the message of reason. The satire is just so harsh and close to home considering these stupid space races going on. Ironically, the good parts of this film will probably go over a lot of people’s heads.

I think when Kovich started explaining post burn cadets he was really talking about post covid lockdown students. Definitely see that with kids being awkward and more antisocial than ever.
Felt good hearing all that being said because I think it’s very representative of the present moment even if that wasn’t intentional.
On another note, some of you haven’t ever been to therapy and it shows. Phaser shots fired…

Very much looking forward to the next chapter of this story…

Invasion (2021) S1 E9
citylion 1 points 2 years ago.

Anyone remember The Strain? This is how their last season just jumped the shark even though it was a ridiculous concept to begin with…
There was definitely momentum in this episode but all the characters are written to be hated on.
Le sigh.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S4 E3
citylion 3 points 2 years ago.

It’s good. Just feels like the writers have a trauma specialist on hand saying,” No, put it up to 11. Have them communicate how they REALLY feel!’ Definitely echoing what others said about the season. But maybe that’s just reflective of the ethos of the times?
Slightly exhaustive but still enjoyable.

This is like some M. Night Shyamalan tones and misdirection with audio and lack of visuals. Really annoying to be honest. Not a lot of traction/development in this. This felt like a filler episode although most of this series has this same tone.
Again, it just reflects tragedy porn and how a subject reacts badly to their given reality. Their circumstances are written as one of pure luck with the outcome.
Not liking this show and this main character is annoying. Although they’re a minority well educated doctor they exhibit so much repeated trauma, bad behavior, and horror movie tropes, it’s exhausting. The writers could have done more to make them a more three dimensional character than this bleeding heart woe is me trash can fire happening.
The moment that she ran upstairs instead of running out of the house and then again when she ran to the basement(facepalm). This show is a slow burn and not really in a good way.

Acapulco (2021)

Really enjoying the feel good aspects of this show. It was a good jump off from the enod of Ted Lasso in a throw back but inclusive type of way.

Dopesick (2021) S1 E6
citylion 3 points 2 years ago.

Awesome. This series has not had me waver my attention so far.

4400 (2021) S1 E1
citylion 5 points 2 years ago.

I keep feeling like these shows are made to manage whatever collective trauma we’re all going through. It’s consistently tragedy porn that we’re being spoon fed. Here’s a crazy bad situation and here’s how a group of people cope with it. Am I wrong here?
I understand the function of stories grabbing one’s attention but this just feels like the same thing over and over again.
Not a bad show but maybe I’m just watching too much of these same narratives over and over again.
