When visiting the Salzburg Festival wealthy Georg gets financial support from his Austrian friend due to the fact that during the thirties of the last century it was only allowed to take a very small amount of money across the border from Germany to Austria. One day they missed each other and Georg gets help from the parlor maid Konstanze to pay his bill in a cafe. Of course Georg falls for Konstanze. When he learns that she as well as the rest of the family is pretending being part of the domestic staff he cooperates to support Konstanze’s father - owner and count of the castle - to collect some comic situations which he needs for his next theatrical comedy.
