Present Perfect is a visual song to the impossibility of representing ones life with a single moment as we often do with a photographic image. As the figure in the film is simultaneously following multiple paths one the single strip of 35mm film so does a lifetime comprise many different facets of the same individual over time but each one confined to their own specific now. Which I is me, as the I of my past, the I of my future and the I of now are all equally valid. The unadorned body is firmly in the now, unlike the mind yet we seem to be constantly emerging; moving from a there through the here to another there; we are in a constant state of then. |
