Details:

One of the clumsy mistakes that Harry Worth makes while courting Emily is to go to her father’s jewelry store to buy her a ring. Her brother Jack waits on him, and even shakes him heartily by the hand when he learns that he’s progressed so far with his sister. But when father enters the store and sees the purchase he places his veto on the idea by putting the ring back in stock and waving his hand. Shakespeare once said something about there being a tide in the affairs of men. Harry’s tide comes soon, when the store is broken into one night and robbed. It happened that Emily’s brother had to come back after hours in his evening clothes, and now when the police are summoned to the scene of the robbery one of his gloves is found on the floor. No time is lost in getting the suspect under guard, and it seems that everybody loses faith in him but Harry. There is a saloon next door which excites his suspicions, and, feigning drunkenness, he overhears something that looks like a clue. After a series of adventures that require as much tact as nerve, he is finally detected by the gangsters, and when he gets into their power they bind and gag him. But he manages to work himself free enough to reach a phone and upset it sufficiently to talk. In this way he notifies the police, and when they arrive they not only capture the thieves but recover the loot. You can bet that after that Harry doesn’t even have to pay for the ring he wanted to buy his girlie!
