A happy tragedy in the style of early Woody Allen and the French New Wave, THE LAST SUMMER is a black-and-white love letter to a certain kind of woman and the unseen backstreets of New York City. A young man sees a girl on the train and impulsively, in a moment of madness, follows her. After finding her distraught on the sidewalk, he approaches her, beginning a long night of wandering New York City together as he attempts to understand and win her over before morning. THE LAST SUMMER is a portrayal of the lovely futility of trying catch those who can’t be caught, and an honest portrayal of what it means to look—often haplessly—for love today. |
