Details:

Artemis and the Astronaut is a film about love and memory. Artemis has lost her husband Henri, first to Alzheimer’s, then to death. Henri was a brilliant and charismatic concert pianist who specialized in Bach. As the film opens, we see Artemis still grieves for Henri. Listless, she continues the routine she and Henri had shared during the last few months of his life—-listening to his recording, looking at their photo albums, putting together a puzzle. What breaks Artemis out of her rut is a smack to her head—-she bangs her head against the kitchen cabinet door so hard that she sees stars! As she ices the bump on her head, Artemis is astonished to see twinkling stars come swirling in through her window. The lights take her to an Astronaut hiding in the woods behind her house. With his visor down, Artemis is unable to see who the Astronaut is. As they fall into the same routine that Henri and she had had before his death—-listening to music, looking at photos, putting together a puzzle, Artemis begins to wonder if the Astronaut might be her husband. She pleads with the Astronaut to let her raise his visor, to let her see his face one more time. Artemis and the Astronaut is about how sometimes one person has to have enough love and memory for two.
