The father of L.A.’s alternative poetry scene and literary maverick George Drury Smith, recounts his 92-year odyssey; from being gay in the 1940’s; establishing L.A.’s avant-garde writing center Beyond Baroque in 1968; and his battle with alcoholism in the wake of his lover’s death due to AIDS. Shot mostly in 2011, the film reveals the difficulties Mr. Smith faced before publishing his first book at age 87, and the life affirming philosophy that keeps him vital at 92. |
