Sent from Karpenissi to Athens to work as an assistant at the grocery shop of Mr Pantelis, Zikos, a kind but insolent provincial who never misses a chance to speak his mind openly, is instead head over heels for his beautiful neighbour Fifika. As a result, Fifika playfully goes along with it, so Zikos, naively, he starts making plans for a happy life with his sweetheart, without knowing that his wealthy boss who is secretly in love with Fifika’s best friend Litsa, has already asked the help of the neighbourhood’s matchmaker Despina, to take care of the matter. Without delay, and unbeknownst to Litsa, however, having on his side her father, Mr Pantelis in great anticipation, he decides to make the announcement of their engagement on the day of her birthday. Nevertheless, and in contrast to the ambitious plan, things are bound to take a new turn, when out of the blue, the girls’ true sweethearts will make a big entrance at the birthday party with the intention to propose.
