The persistence of Mrs. Bradley to go out every night causes an estrangement with her husband, who is insistent upon her staying home. They part, but neither is happy. One day Mr. Bradley receives a letter from his mother, which has been forwarded from the old address, saying that she will visit them on her way to Boston. He rushes to the apartment of his wife, who agrees to reopen the old house and not to let the mother know of their trouble. Everything is in good order when the elder Mrs. Bradley arrives. They are so busy talking that evening that the time for the train has gone and Mrs. Bradley is obliged to stay with them that night. After his mother has gone to bed Bradley takes his hat and coat and tells his wife that he is going to spend the night at a hotel. Just as he is about to go out, his wife hears his mother coming downstairs and calls him back. The old lady has come down for her spectacles. They tell her that he was just going to lock up for the night, and their explanation satisfies her. After Mrs. Bradley has again gone upstairs, man and wife look into each other’s eyes, and, remembering the unpleasantness of their separation, they agree to live together and be more considerate of the other’s likes and dislikes.
