In a racially diverse high school, Kwame, one of the smartest African American seniors, with a geeky reputation, asks the most popular and attractive African American girl, Nia, to the annual spring dance. Nia humiliates Kwame, rudely turning him down in front of her popular crew and his friends. When Cheryl, a popular white girl consoles Kwame and plans to go to the dance with him, a conflict based on race, and popularity ensues before there’s a resolution, when to Nia’s chagrin, her best friend, Tonya, agrees to double-date with Kwame, Cheryl, and Kwame’s best friend, Nelson, challenging the popular crowd to examine its priorities and social prejudices. |
