Luz y Sombra (Light and Shadow) is an investigation into contemporary art produced in Cuba. The film follows 16 artists involved in a collateral project to the 2012 Havana Biennial. The project, entitled Detras del Muro (Behind the Wall), brought site specific performance and installation to Havana’s waterfront promenade, the malecon. The film depicts the symbolism of this space and its transformation through the intervention of public art. Luz y Sombra analyzes the role of art in public space, what it means to be an artist practicing in Cuba, and the greater implications of artistic practice in general. |
