Things aren’t going so well for the main character of the film, a young girl living in Montreal. She doesn’t get along very well with her mom, and that only aggravates the fact that nothing is going as it should at all! She heads off in the morning with a goal : find a four-leaf clover for luck! Before she knows it, she has left the streets of Montreal to find herself in the midst of a forest wonderland where music is playing all over- and the singer/songwriters are right there beside you; where shady activities are still going on, and sometimes you can find yourself right up next to it and all alone; where, finally, a scary homeless person might really just want to play a game of tennis, and might be able to find YOU a job! The theme of identity runs through this tale of exploration, as much for the characters as for the city itself. Friends or enemies, the secondary characters possess multiple facets to their personalities, whether it be Indian style in a Moroccan citizen or cell phones used by the homeless, or even a search for an Irish lucky charm by a Brazilian who really is ‘more montrealian’. The city, looming above all the activity, doesn’t know itself if it is more urban, noisy and overpopulated, or natural, calm and sunny. Everyone will be able to follow Lutin, the Leprecaun of the title, throughout the labyrinth; but what will be waiting at the end? |
