Ilham is 12 years old. From an early age, she has adored telling stories. She makes films on her computer with heroes she invents. But, today, she will be working on something else… This “Short Lesson in Cinema” is a two-way conversation both happy and profound, between a young girl and the director who has chosen to paint her portrait. Essentially, what is a documentary? Ilham films the world that surrounds her, her family, her grandparents. She questions them and questions herself: how to film them? What to say about them? Like Russian babushka dolls, the two films interlock; the director’s film and his subject’s film actively contribute to the creation of the artwork together. |
