The life of female Hollywood extras, typified by Jane Barnes, who’s 21, a three-year veteran living in an apartment house with roommates who constantly borrow and return money and stockings, all scraping along hoping for work. Every day they call Central Casting. Jane’s down to her last $3 and goes nearly two weeks with no work. Just as she gives up, the phone rings and a studio car is on its way. Is it for real? Will she have a speaking part (she’s never had one, though she takes elocution lessons)? Will there be a contract? On the set, all is revealed. |
