Made by famed director, G.W. Pabst, at UFA, under the Third Reich, Paracelsus is the story of the Renaissance era Swiss physician/alchemist/astrologer,, Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim. Though Pabst had tried,, he was unable to escape the Nazis, and was forced to direct under the Third Reich’s auspices. Though Nazi-era system has, in large part been banned but omission of public showings, many films of this period and regime are quite good (or at minimum, interesting), as they hold up a mirror to the Nazis propaganda machine controlled by Joseph Goebbels. |
