In the remote mountains of Afghanistan, Captain James Lesley, a United Nations peacekeeper, struggles to negotiate with the local warlord Azeem Asoud not to massacre a village in the morning. It’s James’s last night in country and he desperately wants to give meaning to his tour of duty and leave having achieved something. But in this land, being a hero has no meaning. The Last Night is about the reality of Afghanistan and the Western ideals to change it. It’s about life and death in its coarsest form, being played under the facade of friendship by seemingly reasonable men, knowing that in this hellish place, death is but a wrong-glance away.
