What would a modern female political firebrand have to say to Emily Wilding Davison, the suffragette who ‘threw herself under the King’s horse’ (or did she?) at the 1913 Derby? Would she congratulate her on giving her life up for ‘the cause’ in a spectacularly successful publicity stunt that people remember to this day, especially every time the Derby’s run?
