Nelson Mandela: An International Tribute for a Free South Africa
( 1990 )
In December 1989 Nelson Mandela's lawyer and Tony Hollingsworth of Tribute met to start planning an international broadcast event to mark Nelson's impending release. All plans had to be both secret and adaptable as the date of the release was not known at this stage. The objective was to provide a broadcast platform for Nelson to speak to the world - unedited. Fifty four days after his release Tribute broadcast a 4.5-hour event to 61 counties in which Nelson Mandela spoke live and unedited for 45 minutes - the longest-lasting furthest-reaching speech of all time.

Neighborhoods: The Hidden Cities of San Francisco - The Fillmore
( 2001 )
A documentary chronicling the remarkable story of San Francisco's Fillmore District. Remembered today mainly for its rock-and-roll auditorium, the Fillmore District is one of the great cautionary tales of American urban life. From the wholesale removal of Japanese Americans during WWII, to the jazz heyday of the 1950's, to the bulldozers of urban renewal, the Fillmore has seen its share of drama. "The Fillmore" sheds light on the way cities come into being by focusing on the bittersweet history of one neighborhood, as told by the residents who fought for its survival. Features the music of Count Basie, John Handy, Jefferson Airplane, and others.

Mondo Mod
( 1968 )
Beginning with the title song, "It's a Mod Mod World" by the Gretschmen, "Mondo Mod" explores West Hollywood, California's famous Sunset Strip in 1966. We journey from discotheques to dirt bike competitions, taking in surfing, karate, go-carting, the Hell's Angels, political protests, pot parties and all the other trappings of the Now Generation. Along the way, we're treated to priceless footage of Pandora's Box, Gazzarri's, the Whisky A Go-Go, the Fifth Estate, and countless other forgotten haunts of "the neon Neverland that the mod set calls home." Starring, according to the credits, "The Youth of the World," "Mondo Mod" features a pot-smoking, bongo-blasting finale during which these hipsters and flipsters start to strip down. Both the film's cinematographers became world-famous: Laszlo Kovacks for "Easy Rider," and Vilmos Szigmond for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Lennon's Last Weekend
( 2020 )
In December 1980, John Lennon and Yoko Ono had not spoken to the media for more than five years. With a new album to promote Lennon was prepared to speak in New York to Radio One D.J. Andy Peebles of the BBC. John surprised everyone by candidly discussing a variety of subjects he'd never spoken of before including The Beatles break-up, his relationship with Paul McCartney, his battles with addiction, political issues in the US and UK, his family and his homesickness for Liverpool. He also talked about working with Phil Spector and David Bowie and how he produced many of his solo albums, which included great songs such as Imagine and Give Peace A Chance. Lennon's Last Weekend illuminates what was to be his final interview with an abundance of archival footage, photographs and conversations with people who knew him. Clearly invigorated and looking forward to making more music, Lennon's heartfelt honesty and forthright revelations make this film all the more potent as he was brutally shot and murdered 48 hours later. John Lennon was just 40 years of age when he died. December 2020 is the 40th anniversary of his death. He would have been 80 years of age.

Iggy Pop: Live San Fran 1981
( 2005 )
While this film may look rough and raw to 21st Century eyes, it is also the best representation of Iggy live during an otherwise pitifully undocumented era of his career. Fronting a crack band featuring Blondie drummer Clem Burke and future David Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar, Pop is as unpredictable and dominant as ever (no small feat since he is sporting a mini skirt, garters and stockings for most of the show). Filmed on November 25 1981 near the end of their tour supporting his 1981 album Party, Iggy and co. are raw and ready for business. Iggy Pop Live 1981 provides a snapshot of a hungry artist at the top of his game in front of an adoring crowd.
