Movie: You Are What You Eat ( 1968 )
A montage of the weird, a freak-out film that appeared when the expression was in fashion and in flower, along with the flower people. The film was one of the first exponents of the mobile camera-rock track-optical effect school of filmmaking, and it is much a document as it is a documentary. A repellent and fascinating depiction of the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, along with Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco and the East Village in New York. Tiny Tim amounts to something resembling a recurring motif and narrator.

Inspired by the acclaimed exhibition "Who Shot Rock & Roll," this documentary short explores the groundbreaking collaborations between photographers and recording artists who came together to create some of the most enduring images in rock history. From the early 1950s through the present, "Who Shot Rock & Roll: The Film" tells the stories behind the photos and takes viewers on a visual journey through the many eras of rock and roll. The film features interviews, new photographs and never-before-seen footage spotlighting the work of Edward Colver, Henry Diltz, Jill Furmanovsky, Lynn Goldsmith, Bob Gruen, Norman Seeff, Mark Seliger and Guy Webster. Musicians Alice Cooper, Noel Gallagher, Debbie Harry and Henry Rollins are also featured. And in a special segment, the rock photography of Linda McCartney is rediscovered through images handpicked by Paul McCartney and a rare interview with Mary McCartney who discusses her mother's rarely seen, historic work. Shot in Los Angeles, New York and the United Kingdom, the film includes iconic songs and music from Blondie, The Doors, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Who - and more. Powerful imagery and insightful commentary give viewers a unique glimpse into photography's impact on the ever-changing-but everlasting-culture of rock and roll.

Movie: White Rooms and Imaginary Westerns ( 2015 )
White Rooms and Imaginary Westerns is an impressionistic journey through the life and career of Pete Brown, songwriter, poet, singer, bandleader, record producer and (originally encouraged by Martin Scorsese's love of his lyrics) screenwriter. It is about youth, age, success, failure, mortality and perseverance. Touching on Brown's wartime and postwar childhood, and his second generation Jewish immigrant roots, the film explores the social and political backgrounds which stimulated the development of this groundbreaking artist and performer. Partly responsible for the sale of 35 million + albums, Brown as a rock poet is thought by some to be in close company to Bob Dylan in chronicling the post war/60's era, but his horizons have continued to expand beyond music and lyrics. The film boasts a stellar cast, both pro- and anti- Brown, including Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce (in his last major filmed interview), Ginger Baker, Martin Scorsese, Arthur Brown, Robert Wyatt, and Fay Weldon. Director Mark AJ Waters (Brown's regular screenwriting partner) respectfully depicts the events, imagery and culture that he was not a part of, but from which he and many of his contemporaries drew considerable inspiration. WRIW is more than a rock documentary, as its subject is not only a musician; it crosses as many boundaries as Brown himself does. It is a fast moving and entertaining portrait of an intriguing and often limelight-shunning personality, still a creative force in his mid-70s.

TV Show: Where the Action Is ( 1965 )
Where the Action Is or (WTAI) was a music-based television variety show in the United States from 1965–67. It was carried by the ABC network and aired each weekday afternoon. Created by Dick Clark as a spin-off of American Bandstand, Where the Action Is premiered on June 27, 1965.Originally intended as a summer replacement and broadcast at 2 P.M. EDT, the show was successful enough for it to continue throughout the 1965-66 TV season, with a change in time period to 4:30 P.M. Eastern time following the horror soap opera Dark Shadows. Both programs attracted a young audience who watch the shows after school. The show's theme song, "Action", became a hit single for Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon, peaking on the charts (#13) in September 1965. Most of the telecasts, all of which were produced in black-and-white, were taped at various locales inSouthern California although a handful of segments were taped elsewhere in the country. The theme song was written by Steve Venet and Tommy Boyce. Later Boyce co-wrote songs for The Monkees. The program had its own stable of performers, most notably Paul Revere & the Raiders, who served as the de factohouse band. When the group departed the show in 1966, they were replaced by The Robbs. Other regular performers on Action included the dance troupe Pete Manifee and the Action Kids. Individual episodes featured a wide range of guest performers, as detailed below. Also appearing were Steve Alaimo, Keith Allison, and Linda Scott. Ms. Scott had a few hit singles as a teenager in the early 1960s; she was only 20 when "Action" premiered. The weekday program was cancelled on March 31, 1967, with the network giving its local affiliates the time slot. However, members of the program's mainstay band Paul Revere and the Raiders (with lead vocalist Mark Lindsay) hosted very similar follow-up shows; both Revere and Lindsay hosted Happening '68, a Saturday afternoon follow-up toAmerican Bandstand, and a weekday version of the same show, It's Happening, from 1968 to 1969. Both shows were produced by Dick Clark's production company for ABC.
