Death Note: New Generation is a live-action miniseries based on the manga series Death Note written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It is a sequel to Death Note 2: The Last Name and a prequel to Death Note: Light Up the New World.The miniseries focuses on the three new lead characters of the film Death Note: Light Up the New World: Tsukuru Mishima, Ryuzaki, and Yuki Shien. Each episode provides backstory for one of the characters and bridges the 10-year gap between the previous films, which canonically took place in 2005-2006, and the new film taking place in 2016.

Through the introduction of his friend Danma Ryuji, Onizuka Eikichi, the former legendary bike gang member, visits Meishu Academy to tend to the trees in the garden as a part-time gardener. Learning that Yoshikawa Noboru, a student in teacher Fuyutsuki Azusa's class is being bullied by Uehara Kyoko and other classmates, Onizuka befriends and saves Yoshikawa. Seeing Onizuka's unprecedented but visceral, powerful response to problem solving, the school's president and principal, Sakurai Yoshiko, overrides resistance from her vice principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi and makes Onizuka a teacher. Onizuka goes on to tackle many issues as the teacher in charge of the most problematic class, Class 2-4.

The last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress. The people earnestly wish for the walls which were destroyed by the Titans to be repaired. In order to do this, the government has been covering the research expenses for the development of weapons against the Titans with precious tax money. Hange, the weapons leader, spends her time on independent Titan research for the purpose of finding the vulnerabilities of the Titans, which are many times bigger than humans. Many of the troops have lost their homes and families because of the emergence of the Titans. They vow to have a heroic counterattack on the Titans.

After finding his mom killed, Satoru's time-traveling ability takes him back 18 years for a chance to prevent her death and those of three classmates.
