Details:

Josh heads to the deserts of Peru to investigate the mystery of the giant, sprawling geoglyphs drawn in the desert sands of Peru. Evidence of new lines in the landscape may hold the key to the 2,000-year-old mystery and finally explain the purpose of the lines. Josh heads over to where he surveys the desert from above to get a glimpse at the gigantic figures. Josh aims to determine if the lines were used as a massive astronomical calendar, or as some fringe theorists believe: built with the help of aliens. Additionally, another theory suggests that the lines were used in drug-fueled rituals as ways of communicating with the gods. The hummingbird, heron, and condor glyphs all point to the rising sun of the summer solstice, so they lend some credence to the calendar theory. While there is a glyph that looks oddly like an alien or an astronaut, Josh recreates a line with some string, paddles, sticks and a little geometry, promptly disproving the alien theory. Lastly, Josh heads to Cahuachi Temple in the middle of the desert, which was an extremely spiritual religious site for the Nazca people. There, Josh participates in a traditional psychedelic ritual to try to get in the mindset of the Nazca when they were communing with their gods. Josh concludes that the lines were clearly drawn to reach out to their gods but he wants to know why. Josh meets with an archaeologist who takes him up in a plane above the deserts, where he gets a glimpse at the newly discovered Nazca Lines: a snake, a bird, and strange zig-zag lines. Josh's expert tells him these lines were most likely made by the Nazca people's predecessors: the Paracas. With a new lead, Josh heads to the coastal town of Paracas, Peru to learn about the ancient people. A local biologist takes Josh out onto the water and shows him a giant candelabra glyph drawn into a hillside by the Paracas around 200 BC. This expert believes that the candelabra glyph (in conjunction with the hummingbird glyph in Nazca) points towards water. Josh heads back to Nazca to meet with Brien Forrester who believes that the Nazca Lines are a sort of map to underground water tunnels. Brien takes Josh to a series of intersecting lines to the east to test the theory. What will Josh discover at the intersection? Can these discoveries validate any of the theories explaining the purpose of the Nazca Lines?
