I tried to watch this. I really did. I knew it would be, for lack of a better term, a “woke” fest. I didn’t know whether it was serious about the culture references, or if it was poking fun at the PC culture. The culture references felt so forced and inorganic that it bordered on cringey, and I pray that’s not the level of low brow humor we’ve collectively settled on. I love Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill, and I’m all for championing social justice, but this was overkill in my opinion. Also, I feel like this was another example of a movie where all the good parts were IN the trailer.
Besides the big names, did you think the other two could sell their characters? Seems like everyone was phoning in their performance.
