Try not to gasp in unison but I just read NBC has cancelled this series. Why does NBC keep buying slow burners if they are just going to can the show right when it starts getting good? It’s become a cliche at this point.
NBC and the other primetime networks have a trend of making high production-fast paced-sexy spy/con-artist type shows that are pg-13-ish and cancelling them even when they have good numbers. The Catch, End Game, The Company You Keep all fall under this umbrella. I could tell from the pilot people would love it but the network cancels it. If there’s sexy leads making lots of quips and no semi-nudes or explicit sex scenes they get the axe before mid season.
USA/TNT/streaming services have had huge success with the same genre. Quantico, Burn Notice, White Collar, Imposters, Covert Affairs, Graceland.
Sometimes there reasoning is very thin. The Company You keep was up against heavy hitters. There numbers were not bad. EndGame didn’t have horrible numbers, it’s just they expected it to have Blacklist/Blindspot numbers day 1.
It’s not a perfect formula but if the show is high production and cheeky, but shows no cheeky cheeky, It’ll be gone next season.
