The novella “The Turn of the Screw” has been made into a film countless times. To be honest, this adaptation/version is the hollowest one I’ve seen to date. There was nothing engaging or even remotely sinister or frightening about it. It’s a complete failure on the suspense level. The cast looks as if they from 4 or 5 different films; they are “play” acting the entire film. Literally, I was bored after 40 minutes. There is little resemblance to the novella, especially in the conclusion. I would not recommend this film unless you are desperate and have laundry to fold or your nails to paint.
