Well. Archaeology suggests that the Macedonians were Hellenized, rather than Hellenes. That being said. The Romans defeated the Macedonians and its prized phalangites a number of times. Eventually absorbing Macedonia into one of its provinces(Provincia Macedoniae). I also think the Roman legions and their infantry tactics/training were superior to that of the Macedonians. Phalanxes were slow to change direction where as the flexibility of the Roman maniples were its strength. Only with Alexander the Great and his army could have beaten the Romans. I think Alexander the Great was the greatest general of all time. imo

That is what i meant in the time of Alexander the great they would slaughter the romans in the battlefield, the romans were not the greatest after all they lost many battles against Hannibal the Parthians and Pyrrhus.
