It wasn’t Paul’s decision, it was the CBC’s, he was blindsided by the cancellation just as we were; he has said he now doesn’t want to continue because of how the CBC just casually dumped the show with no warning, really left a bitter taste.
The store that was used for exterior shots has also been put up for sale, so that might have been a factor in the CBC’s decision.
Unless someone at the CBC comes out and talks publicly about the why, I don’t think we will ever know the real reason why it was canned.
Hi Canadian living in Canada here. The CBC in fact did not want to cancel the show, they did try to save it and find someone worthy of being Ins replacement… The CBC did order a 6th season but Ins was done making tv and wanted more. The one who really started this was Ins Choi because he wanted to produce movies and make more money. The CBC did in fact try to find another Korean Canadian writer for the show but they felt like others were not adequate to take over, so with no other options… they chose to end the show….. the show’s fate ultimately lied in Ins Choi’s hands…..
