I love Paget Brewster and was excited to see this pop up out of nowhere. But…the whole point of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law was showing how farcically bad the original was. Birdgirl has no source material to riff on - even the animation in Harvey B was meant to poke fun at the totally slack level of attention the animators gave it (and props to Seanbaby online for doing the same in a way that makes you laugh so hard bladder control is a problem). The only “source” material is the f’ed up relationship Phil Ken Sebben had Judy his daughter/Birdgirl his wannabe hookup, and they killed that in the first show. I was really hoping Birdgirl and Sebben and Sebben would be hiring clients like GI Joe from the 80s cartoon (that skit on Robot Chicken with the Joes getting confused trying to figure out who to attack in Syria or Afghanistan was spot on and funny - no reason Birdgirl couldn’t have run with that premise), but so far not so much.
There’s a lot of potential there, but the writers/producers need to consult with or hire Astro-Boy and Stoopid Monkey (Venture Bros. and Robot Chicken) productions fast if they want to tap into it.
Disclaimer: Have not seen eps 4 or 5 yet, but they’re not high on my priority list right now.
