Actually, many butterflies prefer rotten fruit, carrion and dung to flower nectar. Sorry, I know you can’t unsee that now, but you asked. Ironically, those were the familiar Monarch butterflies famously known for wintering in Mexico in the thousands, and they are one of the few butterflies that do not eat those things.
