Unpopular opinion time, but when I was a kid (in the long-long ago), I actively disliked the original trilogy. It was long, kind of slow, and (to me) had nothing on other space movies like The Last Starfighter. It didn’t help that New Hope was the only movie the teachers played during rainy-day recesses, and so you only saw whatever snippet your lunch happened to be, over and over again. You can likely already surmise how I felt about the first two prequels, once they came out.
Then I sat through this one, because a friend had bought me a ticket and told me “Just don’t complain during it”. I… loved it. I really did. I liked it so much that I literally went back and watched all six films again, start to finish, to watch them through the point-of-view of Anakin/Vader. It changed the entire narrative for me. I wouldn’t call myself a “fan” of the old ones, but this one definitely made them “watchable” for me.
