Gotta say, I thought the book, aside from a few sections, was pretty dull and bordering on trite. Though the stream of consciousness bits were neat, they couldn’t carry the burdened narrative. The film, meanwhile, seemed to streamline things, provide an interesting angle on the story and character study, emphasizing the commentary and satire. (Plus, I’m a sucker for the little dance he does during “Hip to Be Square”.)
