This was a fun, goofy and occasionally frustrating movie. It would’ve been perfect to see at a drive-in. The characters are all equally kind of grating, although since they’re stuck in a weird bathroom, it’s appropriate for the tense atmosphere. The claustrophobia is felt in this one, hard—- but there’s enough bizarre, nightmarish imagery, quality jumpscares, extra coagulated gore and other fun stuff that it doesn’t get boring. The uneven pacing actually works well and lends a small touch of realism in an enjoyably absurd story. There’s also just enough homages to old horror cliches blended with some fresh little twists that I think went together nicely. The shock imagery is great, again blending some classic occult motifs with a very “current trend” aesthetic in an artful yet still appropriately gory.
Definitely a good popcorn film just in time for Halloween!
