Reality Bites (1994)

Spent 1 1/2 hours hate-watching this contribution to society for the first time since it came out in ‘94. There’s manic-pixie-nightmare-waif Winona Ryder, who seems somehow to turn men into helpless, jealous simps. There’s Ethan Hawke who is in deep love with himself and mutters dozens of cute, not-cute lines. Bad acting and bad writing explode. This movie is basically what some square screenwriters thought Generation X was all about. Good for a laugh, though.

I would have to agree. I’m generation X, and I can’t stand these types of people. The arrogant all-knowing, self righteous, pricks that go over the top with their self image of themselves. Artists? Hardly… they’re just a$$holes who memorized some big words off the TV and let a little bit of originality go to their heads. There’s nothing unique about them. Stiller’s character was the only one who’s heart was in the right place I thought. But of course he was made out to be the enemy conformist. And I didn’t even get a good laugh.
