Impressive. Had my interest. For me, it was reminiscent of Sucker Punch (2011) in quality of it’s badass CGI, heart, female heroinesque, and Action, minus SP’s unforgettable kick ass sound track. Found great quality video on Verystream link.

Good epi,no bells and whistles like the last few but informative if you pay attention, cant really tell what time frame we are in any more since Judith looks to be about 8 and the lil boy looks to be about 3, but I never read the books or comics, whatever they were, so I dont know if there is an exact time frame, it would just be nice if they could give us a clue sometimes like “2 yrs later” on the screen lol.

8STORY8 2 points 5 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

It’s been 6 years since the last episode! crazy hey? (producers gave time frame on Talking Dead after last week’s episode.) I love how we can watch an entire season and it’s only been 3 weeks, and I have to keep reminding myself that that’s why they are still feeling ‘raw’ and reactive about what has happened. Then, another season we jump ahead 6 months and I get to wrap my head around that. But, no way did I ever expect not even at mid-season mark, they’d jump ahead six years, what a surprise. I love that kind of creative story telling and willing to take that kind of a risk. I know what you mean sometimes I wish there were more clues, but then I also like trying to figure it out, lol.

The Walking Dead (2010) S9 E16
8STORY8 2 points 5 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I love the scenes between Carol and Lydia. They are so deep. The connections between the many choices Carol has made in the past with regards to whether to kill or not kill, particularly a child but even as far back as the two at the prison (like season 2 was it?), if they are a danger to the group. This is a powerful emotional challenging dilemma to face once again for Carol and in her broken grieving state. And, I like too how what she sees and says to Lydia is reminiscent but completely the opposite to what Lydia’s mother has said and done. I like to how Lydia suicidally offers the same arm that she has marks of being punished for her weakness to the walker. And then, in the last scene we see how Alpha has them too, why and how. wild. Good writing.

It seems quite often, that the most important parts of our history are lost, overlooked or hidden. like there being very few people that know this ever happened, or that Stanislav Petrov even existed. And he truly was a hero, he saved the world and then he has the gaul to say “I am not a hero!” I disagree with that to say the least, but I will respect his modesty.Maybe now in death he will finally get the proper respect, admiration and acknowledgment that he deserves.

8STORY8 2 points 5 years ago.

Yeah, I’m embarrassed to say I was 20 years old at the time and don’t recall ever knowing of him or everyone’s and my own near annihilation until I watched this.

I see it also as a really great metaphor for how I should be as sure as I can be, use my heart as well as my head, before I retaliate to an “assumed threat” at any level, to investigate, ask questions, be still, as best as I can, before I decide, reply, respond to another or I live with the fallout.

This is not about sharing something new; It’s about recapping a remaining main character’s story-line told over many seasons, recapped into one extended episode. It’s been many years and a lot of content, so I found it very satisfying to recall it all and remind myself just why it’s been one of my favorite shows for the last decade. It’s got me entirely stoked for the upcoming and finale season.

Yes, I did enjoy it…this is for those who do believe in magic…and I was delightfully surprised to see the writer / director is Paco Arango who also wrote and directed Maktub (2011) which use to be in my favorites on the old PW (not in our database at this time)…great movie with a similar essence to Healer. Paco has a special place in his heart for story telling and helping ill children and the magic held in doing so. The following is from the bio on IMDB:

“In December 2011, he wrote and directed Maktub. The film was well received in Spain and garnered three nominations at the Spanish Academy (Goya) Awards. The movie benefited the Maktub Center, the number one bone marrow transplant wing in Spain.

Paco combines his passion for storytelling with a deep commitment to helping seriously ill children.
His Aladina Foundation provides volunteers, builds teen rooms in hospitals, and helps fund expenses for children and their families.

In 2012, Aladina used profits from Arango’s first film to build one of Europe’s most advanced bone marrow transplant center in Madrid.

In 2016, Aladina Foundation rebuilt Hospital Niño Jesús’ ICU with a cost of over 1.5MEUR creating Aladina ICU with the latest technology and comfortable installations for the families.

In 2008, Arango was elected to the Board of Directors of SeriousFun Children’s Network, which runs camps and programs for seriously ill children around the world.

His last project “The Healer”, the first film in the world with a 100% philanthropic cause. It features a cast of well-known actors. The film is dedicated to Paul Newman.”

60 Days In: Narcoland (2019)
8STORY8 2 points 4 years ago*.

Just finished watching the first five seasons of 60 Days In; and right in time to catch the premiere of season six and it’s new focus. That’s one thing I can say about 60 Days In w/o giving away too much is that each season does change, sometimes even different facilities, too. And boy, are they different from each other. What happens in each season is also different and always something new and interesting unfolds. I have been much more pleased as the experience of 60 Days In has progressed through it’s own development over time with how effective the information that the participants give from the experience has effected real change. And, Season 5 was really a mind-blower for me experiencing the depth of race politics that can be involved in some prisons. Excited to start season 6 tonight!

The Name of the Rose (2019)
PacificLilly 1 points 5 years ago.

Absolutely a must-see! Kept me on my toes through the end… loved the twists and turns and guessing not just one but MANY “who-done-its!?” I loved it! A must see for those who love a good mystery with masterful and intelligent writing and execution.
Extremely whitty & intelligent, dark humour mystery, great cast and acting, interesting storyline that adds some non fictional historical aspects from the time it takes place. It can get a little dark, which isn’t always my favorite type of mystery- but this was so well done, I cannot complain one teensy bit.
Apologies for this purely written opinion/review. I don’t have the time to really write this correctly or well done, but saw your question and had to speed type a reply so you don’t miss out! 2 thumbs up from me. I hope this helps and hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you watch it! Best wishes to you!

Was just checking out your favs PacificLilly and we share many but this one I hadn’t heard of but the cover and name caught my interest, so here I am reading your review. And btw, excellent review, just the way I like them and try to do myself when I have time and feel inspired by something, particularly something I don’t think others might have heard of. I didn’t even notice if you wrote it “correctly or well done” haha felt thorough, passionate, and without giving away anything, so imo, excellent job! I’d love to see more of these types of reviews, and might even check out the show myself when I’m in the mood for the mystery genre.

Australian Survivor (2002)

Middle of S6 ep. 6 (first season I’ve watched of Au Survivor) and have to admit, I am liking the Au version even better than the US version (and I’m a long time fan of the US version). The challenges all are so consistently more “challenging,” similar but yet noticeably different, than the US version’s, and very well thought out. The production and the editing of the show are top notch. The editing is pretty cool, I’m liking the contestants back stories being shown, the side interviews in real time, and the humor and game play back at camps. And many of the contestants are avidly in it to win it, which makes for an exciting season even early on. I also prefer what they don’t show, to keep you, the viewer, still enough surprised at tribal council and at the vote. The editing is clever and thought out. Also, I do not like when you do not get to see after tribal, who votes what, and so far they’ve shown it. And, the host is just as good as Jeff on the US version. And, the venue, aka island, they are on in S5 is spectacular to look at. And, over all, I think the editing is more balanced out than the US version, so that the viewer gets the whole experience, the social aspects, the relationships, the personalities, the individual styles of game play, the sleeping, cooking, eating, playing, etc. and weather conditions. Whereas on many of the US season’s they’ll focus on some of the aspects and at times actually ignore everything else.
I’m also watching the African version, and well in my opinion, it’s watchable, somewhat enjoyable but has a ways to go, to get my praise.

This is the best documentary I have ever seen, there should be statues of him all over the world! But like the title says, “Few people know what he did for us” This should be taught in schools. I do take it much more seriously then most though, just because I have a personal connection too it, it all happened the day after my tenth birthday. I remember exactly where I was, and what I was doing the day the world almost ended!

8STORY8 1 points 5 years ago.

Thank you for your Comment finigan1. It’s what drew me to check this out last night. I really barely still have words to describe the impact felt, as I am still processing it and deeply. It’s so sobering. I’m very glad I watched it, and that he made that choice. And, I concur it is perhaps the best documentary I have seen, as well. I don’t generally even watch documentaries, but have seen some remarkable ones over the years. This was so well done. I loved the drama-renacted-documentary style and that he played himself. But that being all said, I’m really still at a loss for words at how sobering of an incident this all is, and how it is still a threat yet today.
