All 8 episodes have dropped! Guess what I’m about to start watching?

Oh yay! I might save this deliciousness for Halloween! Thx for commenting Piglet:)

What happened to “Daryl & Caroll”?

starphlo 1 points 6 months ago.

I read somewhere that Carol didn’t want to play.

The Equalizer 3 (2023)

Reminded me of Charles Bronson Death Wish movies. Love it! These are getting better.

The Morning Show (2019)
starphlo 1 points 6 months ago.

It took all of two seasons but I can now say that Anniston is okay. Witherspoon is excellent. I like the guy who plays Cory and John Hamm is a definite spicy addition. Some really good scenes. Some terrible. Anniston singing show tunes . . . thankfully I can fast forward when needed. Good when you need a drama.

Medieval weapons, a psychic kid and Daryl to save the world! First episode was great.

If I had only one tv show to watch at the end of the world, Mork and Mindy would be ok, or anything with Robin Williams.

Painkiller (2023)
starphlo 1 points 7 months ago.

Not nearly as good as Dopesick but still okay. Some scenes are so overly dramatical that they are ridiculous. Being from the area, some things bugged me, like the town they called Blacksburg was not Blacksburg, and they had Ms. Flowers living in the projects in Roanoke, where no one lives who has a good job. The writing was poor and Ms. Flowers was unnecessarily belligerent. Still, it told some pieces of the story that I didn’t know.

Dopesick (2021)
starphlo 2 points 7 months ago.

This is a story very well told. I”m from coal country of Appalachia and didn’t know they specifically targeted there. What absolute horrible people. I’ve had friends and family die, get put in jail and otherwise ruin their lives. There are no methodone clinics back in those hills either. Last I heard (I moved away years ago) they were trying to get one 30 min from my hometown.
Keaton was fantastic in this (“Don’t you think it might be just a tad more addictive?”). Some great writing. Michael Stulbarg did a chilling portrayal of Richard Stackler.

Very well done with an important message. Hope there is a season 2.

How I Live Now (2013)
starphlo 2 points 8 months ago.

I stumbled across this and liked it very much minus a few plot holes. I try to catch every doomsday-like flick but hadn’t heard of this one. Idyllic childhoods in the beautiful English countryside are interrupted by war.

Yes but I think it will get better. Hope so.

Thanks for bringing this to the forefront. The IMDb rating is high compared to TVMaze.

Yes! I’d give it 8/10. I just realized where I’d seen grown up Alice…from the Walking Dead.

Billions (2016) S7 E1
starphlo 3 points 8 months ago.

This season is off to a good start. A bit heavy on the sports/history/culture references but that’s okay. Last season was pretty terrible but mostly due to the lackluster storyline. Downright boring, it was.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023)
starphlo 3 points 8 months ago.

This had me hooked from the very first. Excellent series so far. Very intense. Looking forward to finding out more of the back-story on the characters. I’ll never pay any attention to TVMaze ratings again.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022) S1 E3
starphlo 2 points 9 months ago.

I just started watching this new series and am pleasantly surprised at how good it is. The sets/graphics are so dazzling that I”m gonna have to carry my large screen up from the basement for my bedroom. Usually I just watch stuff on my laptop in bed. The stories are original and interesting. Just hope the characters grow on me…do like Spock tho.

A lot darker and grittier than the original, at least from the first two episodes. I likes Boyd way better than this new nemesis. Nice to see Willa as a teen but I think she needs to be a bit sassier like her momma. All in all it’s entertaining so far.

starphlo 1 points 9 months ago.

Dark and gritty sounds good to me. Gonna watch now…

This has made me really want to go to Italy but since I can’t maybe I’ll just paint something florescent green. Such beautiful scenery in this show. Such brilliant greens.

I thought it was a good first episode. Back in all it’s grimy glory. It might not be as good as it was at first but after watching this long, I’m gonna see it through. Anyways, I like it so far.

I got to the middle of the second episode and couldn’t take it anymore. Maybe I’ll try again later. The story is convoluted but not interesting enough to bother to keep up.

Requiem for the American Dream (2016)
grasshopper rex 5 points 1 year ago.

One of the most brilliant intellects of our time pulls back the curtain to show us how things really work. He paints a bleak and alarming picture, yet offers hope still that if we can join together in unmasking the real enemy of the American people, we could reignite the American Dream and finally make it a reality.

My man! He’s still doing interviews on Youtube at 93. So incredibly brilliant. I haven’t seen this tho so thx for posting.

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches (2023)
alexisbits 4 points 1 year ago.

I’ve read the books a couple times. The imagery is so powerful. I was a bit disappointed in Lasher in this, he seems less debonair than in the novels. Now, the house on First Street is gorgoeous.

starphlo 2 points 1 year ago.

Folks on reddit say Ann Rice wanted Simon Woods as Lasher. No one is too happy with Huston, including me. I was also surprised that they brought him out so soon. Still enjoy the show tho.

The font used in the credits is very similar if not exactly the same as the one used in Columbo. She does remind me of him. And I want her hair. Great show.

Black Snow (2023)

Do you recognize the actor who plays James Cormack? Travis Fimmel who was Ragnar in the Vikings. Took me a minute since he has a full head of hair and wearing glasses.

starphlo 2 points 1 year ago.

I love Travis Fimmel. Good to see him in another series. The show is pretty good too and leaves a nice cliff hanger for season 2. Soundtrack is rough.

1923 (2022)
Piglet 2 points 1 year ago.

I have trouble watching children being abused so I may not watch the movie. But thank you for suggesting it. When I’m at the grocer and I hear a parent yelling at their child, I have to turn and walk away for fear of what I might say and it brings back bad memories too. I’ve fast forwarded through some of the scenes with the girls who are being hit. I just don’t understand the reasons the Catholic church would do this type of things for years and years. This right here is why I don’t like organized religion. All the hellfire and brimstone is not the way to convert people to becoming Christians, scare tactics is not the way and the Lord didn’t intend for this path to be taken by church. I know we’re taught not to question why the Lord does/allows things to happen, but damn, abusing children and even adults is not right no matter the religion!

starphlo 1 points 1 year ago.

I totally agree Piglet! Strange how the more they claim to be so goody-two-shoes the worse they are.

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches (2023)
starphlo 4 points 1 year ago.

I read these books a long time ago. The first one was so creepy that I could only read it during the day. I still remember how beautifully the old house was described and how devilish Lasher. Very curious to see how he is portrayed. Highly recommend this series if it is half as good as the books.

1923 (2022)
Piglet 1 points 1 year ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

One reason why I have no use for organized religion! I am a christian but have not been to church in many, many years. Even my own mother hid behind her religion and thought her physical abuse was what the bible said to do to her children! One reason why I never had kids, didn’t want to do to them what she did to me and my brother. What happens to us as children/teens shapes us into the adults we become. And we can become that parent or go in a different direction. Some take the path of drugs/alcohol which is the path we didn’t take. I’m totally different than my mother. At least the people who inflicted such pain and death did have to answer to the Lord. We can hope the wound up in H__, a certain kind of H_!

starphlo 1 points 1 year ago.

So sorry you went through that Piglet but glad you and your brother came through to the other side and are okay now. I also had a rough childhood with a militant christian mother and absent father. I am pretty much against all of organized religion now but do like Buddhism.

I went to look up the name of a movie for you, The Magdalene Sisters, and saw that there are lots of movies on the Catholic church’s abuse that I haven’t seen. Not sure if I will watch them tho because I get too upset!

1923 (2022)
elb11 4 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

As much as I love the Yellowstone franchise, 1883 was awesome, but this new prequel 1923 is difficult to follow for me, its all over the place, bouncing from area to area and people to people, cant keep up with who is who and what they’re doing and how they fit into the family. The cast is great of course, but parts of the story are very disturbing and sad to watch, especially the mistreatment of the Indian girls by Nuns no less smh. Its hard to realize how bad they were treated in that day and time in the USA smh. Hopefully things will start to come clearer for me soon lol. I’m guessing there was a lot of research done to make sure the info is true and on point so as not to be misleading to those of us who weren’t there, but I would’ve had a difficult time going through that research finding all this info on the mistreatment of the people during that time smh. I surely hope the remainder of the series gets easier to watch.

starphlo 2 points 1 year ago.

It is shocking to find out about their treatment but it is true. They have been discovering mass graves over the last several years in Canada. It is not shocking to find out that it was the nuns and the church. They comitted similar atrocities in Ireland and really all over the world if you consider all the rapes of children. Difficult to watch but needs to be known.

BWish I hadn’t wasted my time on this. Unsatisfying ending if it was an ending at all. Seemed more like a continuation in a different place and no questions answered. But then, I didn’t like Dark, either. That should have given me a hint.

The White Lotus (2021)
starphlo 0 points 1 year ago.

First season gave me a physiological reaction with the bitching of the terrible people combined with the noise/music. I actually thought it raised my blood pressure and was causing me an arrhythmia. I did not like it. Being curious if the second season continued any of the same character story lines and being somewhat compulsive, I watched the second season. It was an amazing improvement over S1. I can recommend S2. Gotta give S1 credit for being so bad that it made me feel sick, tho. That’s an accomplishment.

Yellowstone (2018)

I’ve been seeing trailers for Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone: One-Fifty and I think I’ll give it a watch. Four episodes thus far and I’ve been to the yellowstone but it was many years ago.
