I’m getting AI burnout.

Researcher 1 points 5 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Me, too! This and the cry baby Bart in Beacon 23…the new villains. All because we want to build a thing that does the things that we no longer want to do. Could this have all started with wanting something to balance our checkbooks?! Can’t remember the name but there was an animated film about people off-world in VR growing fat…leaving only a last robot on the surface…that’s one that brings shudder!

RANT: I do not like this ending. I know the title itself makes it unlikely that it will be a continuing series, but WTAF??? If Andy is free, he can (and likely will) create a system to find Lee and Zoomer (if they even made it out alive. ENQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!! This is not a proper ending! Very unhappy right now. We at least need a movie to wrap it up, see Lee and Zoomer safe and Andy in prison! Seriously, this is unacceptable. I know, I know….I should not get to invested in a TV show.

Researcher 3 points 5 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Not an attack…just conversing.
Why would we need to see Andy imprisoned? He did not purposely drive Ray to do what he did. This is yet another product “showing” how an AI will evolve and act on what it makes of putting 2 and 2 together. In Darby’s words, Andy “mated his therapy bot with his security bot.” Ray then used Zoomer as his physical “tool” to take out the threat(s). I think that Andy will continue to work on his AI, thinking that he can steer the AI…mistake! I do agree with you that it makes sense for Andy to ceaselessly search for his son…his ego will not let go of Zoomer that easily.
But honestly, I’m good with where it ended. I don’t think it’s enough to explore in another season. As much as I enjoy Marling/Batmanglij products, they don’t seem to have much luck selling any follow-on…too bad for us!

Geez, I’ve never been so sick of an AI in my life! Even Skynet is more preferable than this cry baby! At least, Skynet was clear about its mission: kill humans…no identity crisis there! IMO, this show seemed to be about an AI called Bart…should have have been called Brat!! Here’s hoping the season finale moves the story line along.

I am LOVING Jennifer Jason Leigh in this! This episode truly showcased her villainous capabilities. When one thinks about how she’s putting her stamp and flair to the written word, one realizes how much she brings to the table. Jennifer Jason Leigh has got my vote for Fargo s5 MVP!

Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie (2023)
kameljoe21 2 points 5 months ago.

I am watching it right now and I think that its being set up for a new season of 22 episodes. They clearly mention this during a meeting. If this movie does good I am guessing that they are going to release the information that there could be a new season. I would super hope that they do make another season.

Researcher 1 points 5 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

That’s exactly what I thought! They were so specific, it has to be an episode count. How cruel would it be to hint at it (sleuths in the fan-base jumped out of our seats!) and not to deliver?!

I blame the “Showrunners” They turned this show into a giant ego stroke. Why do y’all think at the end of every episode you’re forced to sit in their bland crappy apartments and listen to them pat themselves on the back about the decisions they made.

They force decisions and pull rank to get done what they want. Then sit around telling everyone how creative they are, when the writers and directors are trying to work around their decisions and egos. Padre was a waste of a season. All the Madison returns BS was awful. So many other options and people they could have brought in from other shows. Just awful.

Researcher 2 points 6 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

So true on all points!
I watched one “inside the episode” and recognized it for what it was: “Mommy, look what I made!” I always thought that these explanations were necessary when there was so much nuance that viewers would need it. But with this last season, I don’t think so.
Will definitely agree with you on “The Madison Season.” I couldn’t figure out why they needed her to come back. And her flip-flopping from “help the children” to “kill everybody” to “find Alicia” was horrible.
FTWD should have quit after s2 or s3…there was no weight to anything that came after. Actually, I lost interest after John Dorie’s death.
I get that they had to attract Lennie James and Kim Dickens with whole seasons worth of “soul searching” but these two characters had waaay too much screen time. I kept waiting for FTWD to meet up with TWD characters that had hit the road, but that never happened. I guess spinoffs were a bigger ROI.
These two shows are a clear example that too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing!

I recognize the lack of compassion and empathy in me (I blame my choices of TV/Film “entertainment”), but the same speech over and over and over again coming from the exact same idiots would make me open fire from word one! Of course, writers are to blame (as well as whoever is standing in for them) for putting out such repetitive drivel.
Maybe there is some hope for me since I hung in there expecting an uptick in quality. Nah! Just insanity!

Lena and her character Aster? I was hesitant to and didn’t like her character in GOT but so far, she is okay. Did you also catch the comments between Aster and Kanadey (the red headed lady) that they were there from the same company. Odd to say the least so it will be interesting to see it unfold.

I did find that interesting. Same boss, but different goals? I don’t remember what Kaneddy’s goals were. She was aligned with scrappers but was that temporarily just to get to B23? Aster was after the rocks but what was Kaneddy’s goal?

Here’s a little bit more about this new limited series and it sounds intriguing…..“A Murder at the End of the World.” The seven-episode limited series is Agatha Christie by way of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” following a hacker-turned-amateur sleuth (Emma Corrin) who investigates a death at a secluded Icelandic retreat. Featuring a killer soundtrack and potent supporting turns from Clive Owen and Harris Dickinson, the nervy thriller takes a chilling dive into our obsessions with true crime and artificial intelligence.”

Since The Shrike alluded to being in possession of the Mother of all Weapons, that might be a clue to her being the Bad Guy head of the faction that Raffi is chasing. Maybe Junior, Crusher, Raffi, and Worf are all on the Good Guy team trying to crack the faction that demolished that building. There’s gotta be more to it, right?
It just seemed too cobbled together…trying to add mystery…not make the links too obvious…made it a bit too disjointed.

Not understanding why whatshisname saw fit to get Crusher up instead of just yanking one of Junior’s hairs!! And why make “Picard and Crusher, sittin’ in a tree…” such a big deal? So, they boned. Was someone really wanting that loose end tied?!!
Also, I think making a universe-wide bounty on Junior’s head the sole reason for The Shrike to come after him is pretty lame. Everything (and everyone!) that’s being risked for this one kid?!!

The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
booger 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Don’t think there will be a 2nd.
The whole point of the mini-series was a god (or whatever) wanted a lost story to be told again so it could inspire the folks in the current Witcher series timeline. But I could easily be wrong.
Personally, I prefer to skip all the hype if possible, I watch the trailer and sometimes sift the comments but only briefly, your mindset going in to a thing has an effect on your perception.

Researcher 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

So, it was meant as a “sidebar” or addendum. Then, I think it did the job.
That’s also my MO: trailers and comments from “reputable” reviewers…just to get a feel…not used as deciding factor.

The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
booger 2 points 1 year ago.

Pretty good mini-series overall. Likeable and relatable characters, a clear and defined story, with beautiful scenery and well executed cgi, makeup, sets, clothing, et cetera were combined well and filmed. By no means a masterpiece but very enjoyable.
This is a very efficient storytelling style and one I appreciate after so many American style series where they “pad out” their seasons to match the number some clueless exec came up with.

Researcher 2 points 1 year ago.

Well said, booger!
[Now, why can’t I stop looking at my fingertips?!! My nose is itching!]

I’ll admit I went in with much skepticism, given all the hullabaloo about the Witcher-verse. But I watched all 4 episodes and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t overwhelmed with woke-ism, which nowadays is rare. And, as booger stated above, scenery/sets/wardrobe/makeup/CGI/action was a solid 3 out of 5 for me.
Not a bad watch and, dare I say it…wouldn’t mind a s2…there I said it!
