I had to stop after less than 5 min of the episode to check if I missed an episode. It jumps - jarringly - into the action and advances the trust I imagine would come over time, not a few moments, asaresult of bringing Anton/Strand and Madison into the fold. Daniel would not be that comfortable around them with weapons and there’s no talk of what has gone on in their lives while away from each other. Okay back to the episode.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 6 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

finished the episode and went back and watched the end of the previous one. I stand by what I said. Daniel doesn’t ask for a beat to talk about what has happened in 7 years until Luciana blows him off- no explanation from the two other people he knew longer who had more drama? I think the writing is the wall. They are going to move fast and loose with a lot of plot holes for the last handful of episodes. This plotline of bringing together some of the early people really deserved an entire season not the second half of another. Not a single person is around that knows Anton. Where did they all go?

Fear the Walking Dead (2015) S8 E7

I think they did that on purpose. It was about keeping a language from dying and creating a new life.

From what I can tell, Season 4 Wrapped in April of 2023 but there is no word on when/if it’s coming in 2023. Really disappointing since shooting wasn’t affected by the strike. I was hoping a few episodes would overlap with Gen V. I love it when show’s have references to other shows in the franchise (like the new Star Treks)

Let’s get this convo back on course.

Am I the only one seeing the same ideas being reused from the other series? I get it after nearly 20 total seasons of creative work across the franchise, it’s hard to come up with something new but the entire Walker Band thing a few episodes ago to me was really cheesy and badly done. It was a rip off of Princess’ awesome introduction to the franchise with the puppets she set up around town. If you go back and look the puppets in the French Chorus look pretty low budget. If you’re into puppetry you might dig it but it looked like the art director used techniques from the 80s to make them. After that, the gladiator arena, bodies falling from the sky in the city and walkers who can climb really fast, have all been done. I’m waiting for new things from this series. I think that’s the only thing disappointing me.

This show did everything that Killing Eve did not do for me. SO many people fell head over heels for that show and I felt it was too over the top with false charisma and charm. Just a bunch of over the top scenes for the sake of viewership. Watching this I really got into the work politics and the generational espionage +aging in the work place all of that was was spot on. A lot of CIA & diplomatic titles are people coming from old generational wealth families with international ties, legacy military and ivy league blue bloods.

i really like the crew they have assembled. (except how needy Ian is for attention) i like that they are all actors not big celebs or former reality stars and models, i hope the new additions to the cast dont mess with that dynamic.

i also felt this way about Only Murders in the Building and only enjoyed one out of three celeb performancea. i hope this is better.

I really was hoping Bern would take the Sheriff’s job and he would either retire and become her elder/sounding-board like his dad, or take the chief job with the police. She would then be Chee’s boss and spend the next season dealing with all that. I guess they wanted to wrap things up neatly in case there was no season 3.

Reservation Dogs (2021) S3 E6
DownrightDebonaire 2 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

An episode with some of the elders - it’s a great follow-up to last week’s Dazed and Confused flashback. Seeing the men folk take this kid under their wing - as family do - while simultaneously showing the men they grew up to be when they started out much wilder than Cheese and his gang.

Blue Lights (2023) S1 E1

Very formulaic as a procedural pilot goes. This Cuffs, Rookie Blue and The Rookie — right down to the fast track nepotism rookie, the Dudley Do Right rookie and the older altruistic rookie who signs up after tons of life experience. The cynical probationary trainee is right there too. If you liked those shows, you will enjoy this. Not as wise cracky but funny at times.

Reservation Dogs (2021) S3 E5
DownrightDebonaire 3 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This was a really great episode tying in the elders. They were (I think )the grand kids of the generation in Residential School in Deer Lady’s episode and we usually follow their grandkids on the show (1st gen to be out of boarding school) . we get to see little easter eggs, like how boarding school is just rebranded as “Training School”. Anyway, watch it with IMdB open and you can match the teens in Training school to the elders from last season. Also Maximus (crazy go-kart eggplant guy from episode 2) is the lead we are following.

I am half way through this series and it has definitely held my interest. There are enough twists and turns that I have not figured it out yet. With Cush Jumbo in the lead, what’s not to like?

They are trying very hard in an hour to scream “This is Arthur and Merlin and Avalon…but not like any other rendition from before.” Which is funny because it reminds me of The Green Knight and The Mists of Avalon

Mikeonalpha 2 points 8 months ago.

In the preamble, they don’t mention the Roman exodus from Britain, circa: 430AD which is strange considering they are setting it in the 5th century. It sort of plops us into the era without explanation. I wonder if the books are like that?

It was Trickster, but the story is kind of complicated. The short of it is that she, Michelle Latimer, has since been vindicated in her claims and is suing CBC for libel.

DownrightDebonaire 4 points 8 months ago.

Wow I had no idea. A shame. It’s one thing when we catch the Dolezal’s. It’s another when -in a community that is so sensitive to blood quantifying how authentic you are- an outsider calls someone out (and is tragically wrong) it causes so much harm. A really amazing show gone and actors out of work. Thanks for sharing I never looked up why it was cancelled so soon.

Dark Winds (2022)
greyfur 2 points 8 months ago.

I have never watched Reservation Dogs, though I have considered it, it looks good, and a lot of people seem to like it. Actually just added a couple things to my list recently, and now and again I wind up adding a movie to my ‘plan to watch’ list, though I rarely ever get to sit down and watch a whole movie anymore, unless it’s something really good that I have been waiting for anymore. Just find that I don’t have the time anymore…

I have a lot of things on my plate at the moment that I am trying to accomplish at the moment, and some possible medical stuff (AGAIN!!!) that’s staring me in the face, so I guess that’s the price of outliving ones enemies….

Was giving some thought of trying once again of culling some stuff from the herd again, but thinking with the actor/writers strike, I might just hang onto what I have as we might not get a lot of new stuff for a while, and I can always backtrack and watch stuff as I get the chance, a little bit here and there, and maybe as I get the change a bit of a binge here and there.

Recently I have had the chance to give myself the time to binge a couple things that I thought were right good, and watch a couple shows as they came out, like ‘Warrior’, which was really well done, and never disappointed, but am going to have to buckle down now on some other things for a bit. Shows will still be here when I’m ready for them. Will go mark Reservation Dogs and give that a chance when I get the chance.

I remember there was one show, can’t remember the name of it, was all Native American, really liked it, but only got one season, got killed off as one of the people behind it got nailed for lying about her heritage I believe, and that get the show cancelled. Thought that was a really bad reason to screw everybody else in the production as everybody else did such a great job. Was a great show, and had a lot of potential.

Native American actors never have really been given the chance to get the opportunity to show just how good they can be at acting, or really show their stuff until recently, and truth be told, they can show some interesting stuff when given the right things to work with, and a bit of funding. Too bad this couldn’t have happened a little sooner.

DownrightDebonaire 3 points 8 months ago.

maybe the show was Trickster?

Dark Winds (2022)
greyfur 1 points 9 months ago.

Can’t remember making it all the way through the first season or not, didn’t mark the episodes. I remember really wanting to like it, and at first I did, lot about it I liked, but it just dragged a lot in places. Lot of good things I can say about it, but just couldn’t stick with it, got bored. Might have been I was just watching too many things at once had a lot too do with it as well.

Might at some point come back and take another look and try and figure out where I was when I left off and pick back up from there and give this a good binge watch when I have one of those bored moments, couple of days with nothing going on, those do tend to come along…maybe I’m missing something I will catch not having to wait for episodes.

DownrightDebonaire 2 points 8 months ago.

Try watching this side by side with Reservation Dogs to keep yourself entertained and see Zahn’s range as an actor. He’s hilarious in the last episode (and end credit bloopers). He gets type cast as a Res cop a lot but each role he plays it differently.

Long Slow Exhale (2022)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Rose finally gets a lead show with A list support and the writing is…eh. It’s a good show especially if you love or participated in college sports. It felt like being back in the locker room. A lot of research went into athletics and how that dynamic works with Deans and Athletic directors etc. Unfortunately the writers either never stepped foot out of church or never spoke to a person under the age of 25 because the writing for the younger people is tragic. It was rough listening to kids argue with the Church -going player. The very religious girl is a staple on any athletic team but the way she talked was like a 50yer old was writing her character. I was very disappointed in Famke’s portrayal. One of my fav actresses but this was not her swan song.
I think it was finding it’s way and deserved a second season. For a smaller network show it has pretty good production value. It doesn’t look like a Hallmark production a lot of it is on location.

What I I wrote earlier was to reply to this comment. I totally disagree with you about the show the good doctor. It is an amazing show, and I love the acting, the actors and the plot.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

You are entitled to your opinions but they are limited if you didn’t take in the rest of what I said or watch the other show. Autistic people ARE PEOPLE and reducing them to rocking in place, having loud outburst and avoiding eye contact isn’t great acting. He is playing nearly the exact same character he played in Bates Motel. A psychopath and an autistic person should not have nearly the exact same mannerisms and attributes.

Good Sam (2022)

The Korean version of The Good Doctor was the premise for The Good Doctor not Good Sam.

Bust Down (2022)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 8 months ago.

This was pretty hard to get through. It’s a different style of show I would call The Chicago way. There have been a few comedies produced from there that are just…different. I blame the scripts on this mess of a comedy because I don’t think the scenarios are all that funny or relatable.

That being said I think Langston is funny but he is being type cast as a moron and I’m over it. He’s pretty good in Bless This Mess.

Good Sam (2022)
DownrightDebonaire 4 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The comments on this show are out of left field. I’m guessing the Sophia Bush comments are about her coming out about abuse she dealt with on her two major shows - Chicago PD and One Tree hill. Jason Isaacs doesn’t have the best reputation so who knows what will come out next.

The show is good and premieres a lot of well known Canadian talent - the character’s mother, best friend and subordinates to name a few. In terms of vibes I will say this fills the void that Saving Hope left behind — if you’re familiar with Canadian family friendly medical dramas. It also has the drama of Transplant.

Side note~ I did not realize the Korean version -The Good Doctor was the premise that led to this show. I will go back and watch it. I ignored the Korean version because I thought it was the precursor to the American show The Good Doctor — which is an awful awful awful show where an actor does a really bad version of an autistic doctor by playing exactly the same way he did in Bates Motel. Rebel (2021)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 8 months ago.

The first review of this show clearly reflects the writers anger at the subject matter and the language they used is pretty reflective of that. This is not a lawyer show and it says that in the first 2 sentences of the synopsis. It’s is produced and loosely based on Erin Brockovich’s life. It’s a pretty funny underdog series, where people get help from Rebel - help they couldn’t normally afford or receive because the villain is a giant corporation. It’s a woman with a sloppy life and big personality that’s tilting at windmills. Every episode is a super fast and comical Erin Brockovich type adventure. She always gets her way one way or another and that includes with her big family of ex-husbands fiancé and adoptive kids. Some fragile to a woman in charge may take it personal ;)

This was a very beautiful show. I think it really reflected the look of the time with the popularity of Kodachrome film stock that we nostalgically look back on. It really should have been given a chance. Another show around that time that was the same vibe and took on the space race was cancelled and it looked just as vibrant.

Terminator Salvation (2009)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Not my favorite. About to watch Dark Fate so if I exclude that I would put this one on the bottom of the Terminator list.

  1. I really dislike that the entire thing feels like the video games. I get that they have them and want to bring in that audience but visually that is very difficult to watch for many people. Some scenes I had to entirely look away from the screen. It might as well be Salvation: Machina that came out soon after.
  2. This came out after Sarah Connor Chronicles and retcons some of that. They should have tied in the few details they ended up countering. The time and ages make no sense and we could have finally seen Kyle and Derrick together.
3.This weird limbo of Connor not being in charge after starting the resistance at the end of T3 is weird and just doesn’t do the storyline and help. If they were going to ignore John jumping to the future after Chronicles and the age of the Reeses, then they should have picked up after T3. This had a weak conclusion. Yea he saved Reese, but where did the development of the time machine happen? This movie could have focused on him establishing a relationship with Reese and getting the time machine to send him back. Instead it’s another franchise Bale enters, takes way too seriously and turns into nothing but an explosion fest. The other films had comedic beats and iconic lines. This was a waste of time.

Full Circle (2023)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I would say overall it could use better writing. The scenarios and plot points are pretty wild for them to all coincide at specific times. I don’t like the way they make the Guyana folks look like superstitious fools or how they make Zazzie’s character another manic/ mentally ill person off their meds who solves a mystery.

All that being said if you make it past the pilot episode, the juice is worth the squeeze. Anything negative revolves around the writing.

Where to begin - It’s got potential if it would get out of it’s own way. It starts off with a reality/doc filming style but goes back and forth. Pick one style and stay with it.

The kid’s shoes and sneakers are missing all at once and it’s just dropped as a loss not a theft?!?!? That being said, the 1 in a billion chance that the kid leaves exactly as the tutor is leaving is a bit much, not add to that the 1 in a million chance that they can find him in a commercial vehicle on a Saturday night in Manhattan while the kid is on a bike, plus the 1 in a trillion chance that the stalker shows up at the exact perfect time wearing the exact same hoodie the kid left his house in….

I blame Bad writing. The acting and directing are pretty damn good given the ridiculous plot holes.
