How cool it would have been to be a part of that scene, if even just on the periphery. So creative, so wild, so free.
I loved this. Toni Basil, wow.

Claire Denis is not a director for everyone. Her work is definitely more art than it is mainstream, but she is very good at it, when you know what you can expect from her work. This is more character study than deep space adventure. The performances are wonderful, the setting true to the needs of the story, and the story itself poetic and beautiful, but not easily accessible to those who might not want to think so hard.
I really enjoyed it.
Have a look at the trailers. The French scenery and the house he lives in are beautiful. The first episode in the last 7 minutes, sets up the case he will be following.
You never saw Boondock Saints? He was only 1-2 yrs older when he starred in that.
That’s the flick that made him into a cult hero.
And Debbie Harry was already well past being anything near young in this one.
(If you wanna see a younger—and hot—Debbie Harry in a movie, check out Videodrome).
Odd little psychoflick starring a 25 yo Norman Reedus. Worth checking out if you’re a Norman fan.
Just watched Tombstone last night and forgot he’d been in that, too.
It was actually really funny and not a lot of blood, guts and gore. Even the worst scenes were implied more than shown. Nice change.
That does sound better, I’ll admit. Violence on screen gets to me more than it should.
Off to a good start. Sam Spade in 1963 France.
I’ve been avoiding this because I’m a big fan of Dashiell Hammett, and I’m afraid I’ll be at best disappointed, at worst angry. Your review encourages me, though. Should I go in, you think?
I’m seeing a trend. Beekeeper, Bricklayer, and now The Painter.
I did, twice. Once last week when the wrong links were first moved to this episode and then again yesterday when I saw they were still there. Part 1 still does not have any correct links (but at least they finally removed the wrong ones). I am hoping there will be some good links for Part 2 after it finally airs so I will not need to go find it elsewhere.
The problem is that the folks who handle such things rarely look at the comments, but they’re notified of requests when done through the link, I believe.
Before the two different Gotham Comedy or Caroline stand-up shows, Evening At The Improv was a real high point for any live comic fan. It had been so much nicer if this were a 3 part mini that covered the history of the founder, the clubs as well as the shows, including any current tributes.
Agreed.
As my grandfather used to say: “If you reject empiricism, you’re not being open minded, you’re being gullible.”
I’m not American, I live in the UK.
The filth are universally hated, around the world.
True enough. I used to walk my dog past a police precinct in Portland where a lot of protests had happened not that long ago, and ACAB was painted everywhere.
Best line ever: “I was kinda hopin’ that magic hobo was full of shit.”
Some genealogist somewhere (name unknown) found that all of the illuminati and members of the Bilderburg group are descended from Egyptian royalty. Funny, since most of them are white as snow. The things people come up with…
Don’t feel too bad, you’re not the only jerk here.
EDIT: Now it looks like my comment is directed to no one. shrug
An absolute classic that my partner and I watch every year. Often reciting the poetry word for word along with him!
Yes! But there’s more! ‘TRUTH is the Illuminati operates a secret faction of conspiracy theorists organized to focus attention on movies which as this one are rated 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s important work and the reason I’m here! :-)
Seeing so many comments for or against “wokeness” I’d like to talk about thru actual show. The mature rating makes no sense. A 10 year old could watch this no problem. The action scenes aren’t very good crazy jump cuts to the past every other punch or kick. Her powers make absolutely no sense to me. Will have to search YouTube for an explanation. The best part was the first episode with daredevil that first episode was very good and kind of tricked me into thinking the show was more action based. Which it is not. Overall very boring but did get me excited for daredevil.
Hi Jade, I just watched this, and thought it was worth the watch, can’t say if you will like it or not, but was a pretty decent action flick…won’t say spit about anything else, not a ‘spoiler’ person, you will have to make up your own mind. Or lack thereof, depending on however many we have between us…🤣
Righto, thank you! I like a good escapist action movie now and again.
And I find as I get older, my mind does seem to want to run away now and again. So who knows, eh? 😝
If not for Harry Stamper and his ultimate sacrifice we would not be here and neither would the goverment and their meddling in film affairs.
I’m seeing a trend. Beekeeper, Bricklayer, and now The Painter.
It’s the Illuminati. You know, the cabal that runs the world? They’re actually . . . Masonic!
Everyone? haha Guess that everyone is just the cowardly. x
…we were down-voted as predicted. Gosh, can you imagine being that pathetically predictable? Just for an affirmation or an opinion that hurts no one?? It’s mind boggling!
Side note: Bring it! We don’t care. “God bless you, infirmed in mind and soul. May you be blessed as you bless! “ (not you, GR)
Goodness, upvotes and downvotes on this site are incongruent. They are popularity based. It’s a strange phenomena. We supported you, yet, look and see. Guess we’ll go back to silent and voting with our feet. Best wishes, friend.

9/11/2001 was 6 months and one week after this aired…. I wonder if Bin Laden had cable 😲
George Takei is such an endearing man with so much heart and empathy and character.
I will love him forever!
WARNING: This ep is a lot more violent than most eps in the entire series have been.
I don’t understand why people would downvote this. It’s a very valid warning, and for some, myself included, violence onscreen can cause some pretty severe disproportionate stress responses.
Thumbs up from me, thank you!
she started it
I don’t care who started it, I’m gonna end it!
OMG I’m channeling my dad…
Joan Didion is listed as a writer for this. That alone makes it worth a watch.
That’s an interesting cover choice for a comedy vid.
Oh wow, I haven’t seen this one yet and it sounds so good! Thanks Big G!
