@mantistoboggan3 - thanks for your comment getting my attention! Back in the dark ages, I read everything that Joseph Wambaugh wrote and loved all of them! Not only have the folks at PW put up this excellent story, but if you click on Wambaugh’s name (look at crew listings) you’ll go to a page full of movies and TV shows that he authored! Can’t wait to watch all of them. Those I saw or read in the past are pretty much lost to me for the past almost 20 years due to PTSD . . . Durn! But, now I can watch them and try to remember the stories for at least a month or two!

i watched this flick when i was a kid and loved it, not truly getting all the jokes. my dad was a huge true crime/cop/serial killer buff and read everything crime related and encouraged us kids to follow him in reading wambaugh among many others, there were two other novels that were adapted , the onion fields and the choir boys but not as funny, of course as the black marble, thank you for the wonderful comments
