Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches (2023) S1 E1
alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago.

Always glad to provide a chuckle, augusts1! It’s funny, she’s been in so many other things (including “To Wong Foo”, which lost yet another cast member recently. Melinda Dillon/Merna).

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

I didn’t know why you referenced that line & watched the 1st epi then understood why lol. She is a great actor. Loved the 1st epi too, it was very well done (see my review on the main page).

Willard (2003)
alexisbits 3 points 1 year ago.

A rare remake that surpasses the original. I love how they used Agouti and black for all the rats except Socrates and Ben, so they would stand out. Ben was a Giant African Pouched rat (the kind they use to sniff out landmines). I still don’t know why Willard hated Ben so much, all Ben wanted was the same love Socrates got.

Entertaining movie although quite predictable. Crispin Glover is great in whatever he does & is so creepy & quirky.

I enjoyed that quite a bit. The build up was great & performances excellent. Loved that the house from Season 1 of AHS is the set & basically is another character in this.

You could SEE how pissed Michelle was when Spice went to the back of the stage. lol. Mistress and Babydoll did work well together. And you’re right, that calculated move to take Aura’s role worked.

We may very well see Spice going home this week LOL

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S15 E4
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

They should know by now, but they just keep trying. Agreed about Gottmik, but she was so great on her season. I still get shivers thinking of her “Hellraiser” look.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Oh yea that Hellraiser look was mesmerizing. She could hardly move in it though lol. She was amazing on her season. Love her.

RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) S15 E4
alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

She tried out for the role of Hellpriest/Pinhead for the “Hellraiser” remake. I would’ve loved to see that, though Jamie Clayton did a good job too. On another note, have you see the Gottmik Paris tutorial on Youtube? https://youtu.be/w_AAXLC-uY0

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Oh yes I knew about Mik trying for the role. It would’ve been awesome. I’ve yet to see the remake or even the original lol. I’ll check out that tutorial. Surprised you could post that!

Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (2021)
TisOnlyMe 2 points 2 years ago.

No, the book ISN’T any better, that’s what i’m saying! Personally I found THE LOST SYMBOL to be unreadable but by all means give it a try, i’m sure you’ll find boxes full of it at your local thrift store! :))x

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Oh,ok gotcha.Interesting.Yea I’ll still read it since I’ve read the previous books.

Into the Woods (2014)
ShugarCat 3 points 1 year ago.

Its interesting how they intertwined the fairy tales. And the cast is top notch but, this plays more like an opera. Too much singing can be a bad thing … over kill. Its not something I will re-watch.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

It originally was a Broadway musical (in case you didn’t know), so the opera feel comes from that I’m sure and/or whoever adapted the score/screenplay for the movie. I’ve not seen the play but I saw this in the theater & although visually spectacular I felt uncomfortable throughout. I’ve since fallen out of watching musicals which is very odd since I’m a big music person. I think it has to do with the unreality of a bunch of people breaking into the same song supposedluy’spontaneously’. I just can’t get into the cornball/fantasy aspect of that anymore lol. Funny though my favorite movie is Hedwig & The Angry Inch which is a rock musical. Love that movie so much.

RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars (2012) S6 E11
Tinker_Pixie95 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Yeah I love her too but it was a justified defeat. She was in the bottom most out of anyone, and she is wayyy to sensitive to be the next top all star. She lets her emotions get the best of her still and it reads in all that she does on the show… from how she conducts herself in the work room to how she performs… and even in untucked… prayers for TKB

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Agreed. Definitely some moody trade though lol. He is so handsome as a man.

Resident Alien (2021)
rapscallion 3 points 3 years ago.

I must be an alien because I just don’t get why people gush so enthusiastically about this show. I don’t hate it, but it’s only mildly amusing at best IMO. To each their own I guess.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

I agree. I usually love Alan Tudyck but this wears thin quickly even w/him. His performance is mediocre at best. It’s unfortunate since he’s such a great actor but the fish out of water alien trope isn’t advanced here. It’s just him being deadpan & it’s not very interesting. I think it might be the director.

alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

YouTube is one of the sites PW allows. I’m surprised Tubi isn’t. Shocked you’ve not seen the original “Hellraiser”. I’d say watch it first, THEN the remake. Some of the sequels to the original are fun too. If PW still had the option to watch movies with friends, I’d say “let’s do a Hellraiser night”. lol. Miss that option, but I understand.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Original Hellraiser has been on my list for a long time. Not sure why I can’t seem to get myself to watch it though. I guess there’s just too many other things I’d much rather watch lol.

Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (2021)

Thanks for your reply! The Roots are great, and I would go to a concert if they toured in my country. It’s very possible I was too harsh in my original post. Would like to know what you thought of the film.

YVW, I’ll let you know once I watch it.

Grey Gardens (1975)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Iconic doc about the everyday lives of Kennedy adjacent family members who are in their decline. The Maysle brothers were able to capture this time capsule so well due in part to their ability to create a trusting relationship w/this memorable mother/daughter duo. This doc has inspired legions of documentarians since. Very well worth a watch, maybe two!

Ash vs Evil Dead (2015)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

As a huge fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy I was fearful this series would be a sad facsimile of it. But as soon as I saw the 1st episode I knew my fears were in vain & that I as a viewer was in capable hands.

This series is everything I wanted it to be & more. It’s much more coherent than the trilogy & is a total blast. Rami & crew really connected this w/the trilogy & still manages to bring the gore, horror, humor & cheesiness of the originals. Plus the new characters bring whole new lives & storylines that are explored. I’m kind of glad they went out on a high note & ended it after 3 seasons. Bruce Campbell felt he had done everything he wanted to do w/Ash in those 3 seasons, he stated in an interview I saw w/him. Best to go out w/a bang that is bloody, fun & a wild ride than wait for the fire to die out.

Krampus (2015)
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

I watch this every year on December 5th. Always a fun watch.

I was surprised how good it was. Then again I didn’t expect much in the 1st place.

The Brothers Grimm (2005)
augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Loved this. I’m a big Terry Gilliam fan. I saw this in the theater when it came out, which is how every Gilliam movie should be seen since they are visually quite stunning. This is pretty fun & silly if I recall correctly. Need to see it again since I’ve not watched it since my first viewing in the theater.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)
tabularascal 1 points 2 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Oh, I couldn’t disagree more! The characters were fun, and the cast was cute. But mainly, I really liked the way the script slouches against the 4th wall, smoking a cigarette and laughing at the audience the whole time. The unreliable narrator is a common trope in psychological thrillers, but I can’t recall seeing it used in a horror movie before. And the central plot device is a group of fans of a found-footage horror movie watching footage they found of themselves enacting the violent scenes of the horror movie they’re in. I think that’s very clever! Still, I can see your point. It’s not scary. No amount of meta-narrative flair can redeem a horror movie that isn’t scary. Which is exactly the problem I had with this movie too.

augusts1 2 points 2 months ago.

I felt it was trying too hard to be clever, which never works out well.

Fucking Ghosts (Short 2020) (2020)
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

Hilarious! I’d definitely watch a feature length film. But then again, they might not be able to sustain the level of hilarity that this parody trailer provided.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Maybe. Guess we’ll never know!

Squid Game (2021) S1 E1
greenguy86 2 points 2 years ago.

Have you ever watched a Korean show? You can view elsewhere without dubbing and watch it with subtitles which is my preferred method.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Yes, I typically enjoy Korean movies but the lead character in this just over acts like crazy. I wouldn’t enjoy this even w/subs but the dubbing just makes it worse.

Evil (2019)
CleoHarper 2 points 2 years ago.

I totally agree. If it weren’t for the dark humor of this show, and total irreverence, this show would just blend into the background. It’s because of these somewhat unique characteristics in this current social atmosphere that this show stands out. It is this very combination that makes the show entirely watchable. Like Buffy for adults. And that’s not such a bad thing.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Ok CleoHarper, good to know about it blending into the background if not for the dark humor & irreverence.

I only marginally liked Buffy(the show)& had a partner that loved it so I watched it w/him. Probably wouldn’t have otherwise really.

I watched a couple of trailers they had on IMDB when this page 1st appeared here a few days ago since there was no trailer uploaded & thought it looked pretty odd but interesting. This trailer wasn’t on IMDB when I watched the others & is miles better than the 2 I saw there.

Flack (2019)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Love Anna & this entire cast. It’s just very whipsmart, the pace is so fast & the ensemble cast is just tight w/it. Wish they had more episodes! I love the tone of it, being very sarcastic, funny & sad in equal turns.

This had been canceled by the British network it started on during or after they had finished shooting S2, then Amazon picked it up at the end of ‘20 to air earlier in ‘21. They’ve greenlit a S3 fortunately but they still haven’t announced when it’s airing. Probably air in ‘22 since it’s mid November at this point.

Harold and Maude (1971)

Classic! Grew up watching this twisted movie. Equally funny, dark, endearing, sweet & sad it’s a quirky odd couple movie. Cat Stevens’ soundtrack is perfect too.

The Sandman (2022)
alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

It’s really worth the watch. It’s well acted albeit by relatively unknown leads to me at least & a very dark both visually & in the script & beautifully shot w/incredible FX. Here’s a link to it: https://www.primewire.tf/tv/372906-swamp-thing

Oh yes, Joan was definitely a riot. Well-deserved win. And you’re right about Sugar and Spice, it was only a matter of time.

You’d think the queens would learn to avoid doing social media influencers from watching previous seasons of snatch game. They rarely work out. Gottmik’s Paris Hilton was one of those rarities.

American Horror Stories (2021) S2 E7
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago.

I actually liked the Drive-in one. But I love Adrienne Barbeau. From “The Fog” to “Creepshow” to “AJ and the Queen” to “Tales of Halloween”, she never disappoints.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Yea she was the best part of that episode.

Amélie (2001)
Silverdun 4 points 3 years ago.

One of my favourite films ever. Just brilliant.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Agreed, it’s a brill & magical movie. I was fortunate enough to see it on the big screen when it came out. Bought the dvd so have watched it many times over the years.

Climax (2018)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Loved this film but I must say I am a Gaspar Noe fan & love all his movies. Having said that I acknowledge his style is not for everyone. His movies are character driven & lean on plot. Yet they are visually stunning & his characters are endlessly fascinating to me. This is no exception.

All of his movies involve characters who experience some type of traumatic experience & devolve into varying levels of chaos. Noe captures the dark side of humanity that many do not address which often is shocking to many. The fact that he does it w/stunning photography & unusual camera angles/techniques is icing on the cake.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
alexisbits 2 points 2 years ago.

I adored Carolyn Jones as Morticia. Though I’ve enjoyed every version of “The Addams Family”, whether animated or live scripted. Each version brings it’s own take on a classic.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Loved Carolyn Jones as Morticia. She was perfect & a goddess. I think Elvira based her persona partially on her, I’m willing to bet.

The Boulet Brothers' Dragula (2016) S4 E6
alexisbits 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I definitely agree that Jade brought nothing but drama. I even made a remark about all the drama and lack of horror on the first episode. Her look this challenge was her best horror look yet. I think it was good enough to keep her out of the bottom. Especially if they apply “behind the scenes counts” across the board.

You are 100% correct about Sigourney. It’s all glamour with her. And this particular look was lacking. You could tell the “hairy boobs” was just some bits of wig sewn around the edges of the dress. Spirit-gum some hair ONTO the breasts, add more elsewhere, and stop with that “Jessica Rabbit silhouette”. We’ll see if she learns.

augusts1 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

The thing w/Jade though is that sure she did her best look so far on this epi but the other’s looks were just so far superior that even at her best she couldn’t come close.

I’m really disappointed in Saint. She won the Resurrection competition they did last year but is so full of doubt now. Her presentations are lackluster although she’s had a few good looks. I was really rooting for her. I hope she can pull herself up which she did this epi but I think it may not be enough.

IMO Dahli is the clear front runner. He has been consistent w/amazing looks each week & has a great attitude/outlook on it all. La Zavaleta & Hoso aren’t too far behind although Hoso had a stumble last week w/that squid monster look which put her in the bottom. But Dahli’s looks have been so strong it’s obvious he will be on top.

Oh thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. Have you seen any of Gaspar Noe’s movies?

Addams Family Reunion (1998)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Total trash of a movie. Curry & Hannah were ok but the rest of the cast was so over the top to be obnoxious. I love a good comedy but this had few laughs for me. It had a very vaudevillian feel to where most things were overacted to the point of trying too hard. It just did not work. The cgi was awful too, especially w/the dog. Very sad since the 1st two movies are classics. I hope the newest animated versions that came out a couple of years ago are better than this.

Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Decided to give this a go solely on Nicole’s involvement, but didn’t realize the incredible rest of the cast involved. Regina Hall, Michael Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Samara Weaving & Luke Evans? Half way through the 1st epi & I am hooked & creeped out! This is going to be a wild ride lol.

American Horror Stories (2021) S2 E7
alexisbits 1 points 1 year ago.

It certainly deserves STIFF criticism. :-P

Seriously, I thought it wasn’t bad. The ending was kind of beautiful, in it’s own “American Horror Stories” kind of way.

Talk about twisted! That was so good but so sick. What an emotional rollercoaster.

A Field in England (2013)

Odd indie film. I love Ben Wheatley’s newer movies but this is a bit too pretentious, out there & nonsensical for my taste. Some great acting & black & white cinematography but doubt I’ll watch it again.

Most movies involving Krampus aren’t that good. Take https://www.primewire.tf/movie/860687-krampus-the-christmas-devil for example. But this one is really good. Toni Collette really sold it, I think.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Yea Collette ups the acting ante on any movie she does, she’s just THAT amazing. I’ll check out that movie page but I’ll take your word for it not being good lol.Thanks.

No, Sigourney should’ve gone home not Zava! Sig’s look was VERY basic whereas Zava’z was not. They both had major malfunctions but Sig keeps doing the same silhouette. Grrrr.

Orlando (1992)
augusts1 2 points 2 years ago.

Beautiful & odd film starring Tilda Swinton based on the book by Virginia Woolf which I have not read. I recall when this came out but it was not available where I lived so I didn’t see it & subsequently forgot about it till I ran across it on this site currently. Tilda is great as always but the movie I’m not so sure about since there are several major plot points that are unexplained. I might just read the book now.

Lamb (2021)
augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Quite excellent but not a film for the masses due to it being VERY slow paced. The movie takes it’s time developing the characters & letting the world they live in unfold at it’s own pace. The two actors playing the coupled farmers (Noomi Rapace of The Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo movies is one & the other I’d not seen before) give very nuanced, natural performances.

The movie revolves around a central mystery that the childless farm couple discovers through their daily life of maintaining their sheep & the farm they live on. This is a horror film but it is far from the stereotypical Hollywood horror movies. It does not rely on usual horror conventions at all so don’t go in expecting them. I do not recommend this for horror fans who are into blood/gore since there is little of those here. If you like nice neat answers to the questions raised in this you will be sorely let down since it raises more questions than it answers. I have no problem w/that since I love movies that get me thinking about the premise of the film & the ideas it brings up. If you’re into art films then you may very well enjoy this.
