I know I has 2 of the finest comic talents in the business, Billy Crystal and Tiffany Haddish, but IS it a comedy?
I havent watched yet, so I have only seen the trailer, seems a bit like Funny People, where it was a Comedy, but with dramatic element. I guess I should just watch it to see?

Perhaps, one of the funniest, interviews you will ever see. However, the discussion is not filled with “jokes”-Confused?-you will have to watch to see what I mean
This show could be about any people, but it has the extra Aussie feel (Thongs, Beer, Uggboots). Elle Dawe who plays Shazza is hilarious (as they all are) she does well as playing the I guess unemployed, dont give a sh—t about things character=and her facial expressions are priceless
Still Holds up after all these years. When Mr Cooper debuted in 1992, I was 12 yrs old, I can still vaguely remember watching the show with my family after I done my school homework. And I often wondered if it would get released on DVD.
It took over 2 decades, but Season 1 was FINALLY released on DVD in 2016, followed by Season 2 and 3 (Time will tell if 4 and 5 will be released).
But it was worth the wait-Mark Curry was one of those guys whos’ Hollywood career was for lack of a better word, not as successful as some of his counterparts-not to say HE is not successful as a comedian, because he is in, but I had never heard of him until this show happened, ahd he reminds me a lot of Will Smith, in his comedic timing and acting (Think Fresh Prince).
So I finally got S1 and fortunately, I couldnt remember anything about the show (I am 40 now—-so prob a few brain cells have left me over the years), although I did remember the theme song. And the show is funny. Being written by Full House writer Jeff Franklin—HWMC Could pass off as a family friendly show, and I think it does.Maybe more adult subject matter than Full House (Michelle and Jesse cameo in the 2nd episode “Hanging’ with Michelle).
Which brings me to another point I noticed. Is Chris Tucker even an actor? I know that he was in Rush Hour and Friday , but really all he does is just talk. I know he is a born again Christian now (as am I), But in an early episode of HWMC-He literally just sits on Mr Coopers lounge and talks. Anyway, thats not here nor there. Great show and even for todays generation, who may not know of the show, I would consider it a 23 minute escape from reality, which is good (23 min per ep-so theres 22 ep in S1)
Last movie of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe—-She especially had aged terribly in this picture
I would never have heard of Michelle Macnamara, Had I not been such a fan of Comedian Patton Oswalt (although he is well known, I wouldnt call Oswalt a Superstar), I havent yet read her story on tracking the Golden State Killer-the case which was solved after her sudden passing in 2016, but looking forward to hearing about it
A comedy that “works”
As stated by the people in charge of special olympics in the special features on the DVD, The name Johnny Knoxville and Farrelly Brothers and special olympics-sounded like something, that if not done right, would really look bad on Knoxville and the Brothers.
The story is fairly simple: Johnny Knoxvilles character named Steve Barker, runs into debt, and the only way he can think of to pay off the debt is to “pretend’ to be handicapped, and win the special olympics. Now, in real life, if this happened, I am sure the perp would be considered a mean person. However—-in The Ringer (which has a combination of real actors with disabilities and actors portraying them), I am pretty sure Jed Rees (AKA Glen) is not disabled in real life, though he does a pretty good impression of Rain man? or someone like that. Anyway, the other characters, actually ARE smarter than Knoxvilles Character, and teach him how to train, run. If this film had been about mocking disabled people, it would have been a huge bomb, but with the people with disabilities (some real, some acting) actually being more clued in than Knoxville-Its magic, it works!
Comedy? Granted I only have watched the pilot, but I didnt see anything funny. Maybe its because we know the real Bill Cosby is not as he appears on TV
NOT a Comedy. When I first heard that Comedians Vince Vaughn and Kevin James were teaming up together for a “comedy”-I thought, “Great, These guys are always funny”, However this movie is in my opinion, not a Comedy.
Naturally, there is typical Vaughn riffs and improvisation-but the heart of the story and where they say the “comedy” is, is in fact the anxiety and misadventures that Vince Vaughns’ character, gets into, after discovering that James’ wife (Winona Ryder) is cheating on him with another guy (Channing Tatum)-If it was just one spouse cheating, I guess it could be considered funny, but bare in mind, we spend the first hour and a half of the film, seeing Vaughn make up crazy stories, and excuses, to avoid telling his wife (Jennifer Connelly) and others-that he saw Ryders character with Tatums’ character. Half way through the film, Vaughns character realizes that Nick (James) character, is also “sort of” cheating on Geneva (Ryder) by going to a massage parlour. The strange thing, is that everyone seems to know about the what is going on, except for Nick. And at the end, when the truth comes out, that Geneva has been cheating on Nick-Nicks behaviour is never mentioned and obviously Nick leaves his wife, but to me, it seems that BOTH parties are guilty of cheating. Anyway, its just a movie, but I just feel as though the story wasnt as satisfying as it could have been. I think A) Even though James Character didnt kiss or fornicate with the Masseuse (Where as Ryders character, got very close to Tatums’) that they could have worked it out or at least tried to figure out why It didnt work. As is the case in all his movies, Kevin James comes off as the victim/Hero (Hitch, Paul Blart)and Ryder is vilified. I guess everyone has a different idea of “Comedy”. Directed by Richie Cunningham himself, Ron Howard-I wonder how he got dragged into this unusual story. I just wonder if anyone else felt unsatisfied with the ending?
This movie has a special place in my heart. Glad I decided to watch it again.
Yeah its one of the best feel good movies with Will Smith in it. Impossible not to enjoy
Yeah, I found the original to be too violent. I thought it was going to be more a comedy with all the comedians in it. I am glad to see Michael Blackson back in it, Its a shame that Charlie Murphy (RIP) Eddies younger, and in my opinion-underrated brother (a bit like Tony Rock, who is Chris Rocks’ brother) is not in this. I liked the first one, except for the excessive violence. As usual, Token (I want use the right word) White guy, Gary Owen is in this. He is in a lot of African American movies (i think thats the politically correct term) & even had or has his own show on BET. Will do a review after I wrote this
I enjoyed Meet the Blacks, will be interesting to see if this is as good or even better
Ben Stiller is executive producer. Not the main star(s)
Favourite Scene: Franklin (Jonah Hill) “Damn it Mom, stay out of my room, I dont go through your stuff”
After his friends had gone
“Sorry Mom, my friends were here, I was trying to be a big man” (kisses mom on the forehead)
One of Robin Williams final movies
Maybe its just me, but I noticed towards his final years, Robin Williams was perhaps not as zany as he once was (To the guys credit, he was in his early 60s). Of course when I found out he had died my first reaction was “Am I hearing this right?”-We now know, that he was unknowingly battling lewy body dementia and he was going through a rough time whilst filming, but when I saw this film in 2014, I just thought what a treat it was to see him onscreen, if only we had know what he was going through”-It does make it a little sadder knowing that he died in August that year, and also Mickey Rooney (not a big Rooney fan) passed way in April 2014 at age 93 (a little more expected than Williams). This is a very clean, family friendly movie, with no graphic scenes or nudity. Sorry to be a hater, but I thought Rebel Wilsons “acting” was not that great. Tho I am not a fan of anything she does=so dont worry about it people!
I think this is better than the original, but its just one guys view
i did not finish watching
I think because Pete Davidson is a comedian, and so is Judd Apatow, that they prob thought it could be done as a comedy/drama. It is a tribute to Davidsons father, a firefighter, who died on 9/11. A bit like Funny People-where Adam Sandler who is a comedian (?), played a dramatic role, and it didnt suit him. The Drama side of it was acted to the tee, but the so called “Comedy”-A group of firefighters (Headed by the always intriguing Steve Buscemi) showering Pete Davidsons character with a firehose. Bill Burr looked as though he was being forced to play the role. As I said, Funny People, should have been billed as a Drama, I guess Judd Apatow wants his viewers to think they are in store for some funny jokes and some drama. Anyway, kudos to Davidson for having the courage to tell in his words “what his life would have been like had he not started doing stand up after his father died”-However, if Judd Apatow happens to read this—your stories could be told in an hour and a half man. Makes me wonder if the powers that be have something over Judd that ALL his movies go for 2- 2 1/2 hours.
Regarding my former update. I would just say that while it was an escape for a while, its probably not a movie that I would watch again. The problem, I think at least, with Dark Comedys, is that they dwell on a dark subject matter, but the “humour” comes from the person (In this case, Allison Janney) dealing with the fact that her husband (Matthew Modine) died from a heart attack, whilst cheating on her with another woman (Comedian Bridget Everett) and Janneys character acting as though her husbands death was accidental, or that he was missing.
A constant theme through out this movie was “I am worthwhile”, Janneys character suffered from I assume depression and low self esteem and blamed herself for her husbands behaviour. The ending-while satisfying-still had a lot of questions. In the end her character, admits that her husband died from a heart attack and comes t terms with her own insecurities (hence why she lied etc). Very similar to Three billboards outside ebbing Mo, where Frances McDormands character, vents because her child is missing the “comedy” in both of these ones was Awkwafinas character giving the finger after shooting Pete Buttons (played by Jimmi Simpson) and Clifton Collins Jr (who lost his balls in Extract) laughing and mocking as he did so-getting back to 3boem (3 billboard) McDormands humour was her swearing etc. I was the only person in the theatre, there were a few laughs, but as I said in my last review it is more a case study on the depths human beings go to when they are feeling neglected in this world
An intriguing movie, similar to 3 billboards outside ebbing Missouri. Not laugh out loud but an interesting case study on human behaviour.
For some reason Judd Apatow likes to make his movies run for 2 hours or more-(Funny People was 2 1/2 hours). This movie was ok but the character Pete Davidson played-could have been played by anyone. The story could have been told in an hour and a half. I didnt find it funny…No offence to Davidson as I know it is semi autobiographical but the story didnt really hook me in
I knew there would be links..I started to watch it on youtube but figured I would watch it on here through the links
Derek and Dougie standing up to that so called Autism expert. Classic
Defintely in my view, the best Iron Man movie of all 3. Added dry comedy to the movie and made it an enjoyable watch. Mickey Rourke was perfectly cast as well all the other actors. Sam Rockwell was born to play Justin Hammer
Nothing can beat the original TV series, but this is close, and the actors look close enough to the originals
Typical Dangerfield humour….if you are a fan of his other works you will enjoy this if u arent , you prob wont…simple as that
Remake of Cactus Flower (1969)-I think this version is better though
NOT Robin Williams’ reason for leaving us. Not to mention Death and suicide in a forum used for entertainment. But since this was Robin Williams final show before his tragic death in August 2014, One cant help but feel a little sad, while watching this, and then thankful for God for giving the world Robin Williams.
To me, he seemed a lot more humble in this series, Of course he was in his 60s and perhaps he had grown up a little bit, when he died many thought it was because of the cancellation of the show, but as we all know now he had lewy body dementia.
He was battling Lewy Body dementia, whilst filming this series, and although Robin Williams is always funny (even in dramas, even though Crazy Ones is a comedy)-I could see the spark had gone out of him. I hope he is now at peace and we have this series to remember him by
I havent seen this movie, but I know it copped a lot of flack when it was released, going to watch it (not now, as i have to have breakfast) but I usually like movies that are a little quirky. Why was it hated so much? Was it because it was a movie about a talking Duck
I am glad she survived
