Wasnt ready for this to be the finale. Keaton you are amazing! 10/10 on acting as always, and for being so real. All perspectives. I would recommended this to any family member, or friend to watch to try to understand. RIH to all that have lost due to addiction.

For those who have followed the entire NXIVM saga via the media or the Escaping NXIVM podcast series, this is the documentary that takes it to the next level with an extraordinary level of involvement by some of the main players in the group, couple this with incredible archive footage of the group and its members as well as its “official” media productions.
NXIVM is a truly fascinating phenomena, a sort of C21st Scientology with elements of hardcore BDSM, mind control, Clockwork Orange style deprogramming, sex cult practices,
a smattering of celebrities, media personalities and occasional members of the super rich.
With such a rich cocktail of elements, this is going to be one interesting documentary series.

Amusing, fun and fully Loki. (It feels short because it is short at only 36 minutes for this episode, whereas the last episode was 48 minutes - - credits not included.) Leave it to Disney to shorten these things… Still highly recommended for Fans. It was anything but boring.. . It was fun!!

Lovecraft Country (2020)
Kid Kryptonite 9 points 3 years ago.

This series will go down as one of the best and most original horror shows out. The way they blended the supernatural within the 50s era touching on old and current racial events was expertly done. Each episode brings something new adding to the lore and making a jam packed finale. Jordan Peele has killed it at reinventing this genre.

Cataclysmic 9 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I didn’t know they were gonna make a sequel to the first and this was just as great to see the comedic chemistry of the cast. I do agree with another comment that the story ended up becoming ridiculous by the end. The plot in original was more grounded in reality while they seem to have taken a weird Mission Impossible/Fast and Furious route here. The cast made up for the flaws and it was a fun watch overall.

See (2019) S2 E8
Alpha_Jam 9 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

The action was incredible, the suspense was top notch, and the finale was great like everyone else is saying. But I think Jason Momoa’s acting should truly be lauded. That was the best and most realistic war speech ever and he conveyed it masterfully, not to mention his agony and sorrow after his last fight. After watching his movie Sweet Girl, I’ve reconsidered my stance on him as an actor. It’s not his fault for getting typecast as a jock/tough guy; after watching this finale, I can definitely say with confidence that the man can actually act. He’s actually quite great at invoking emotion.

Truth be told there’s a lot of great actors in this series. Tamacti Jun is phenomenal and probably my favorite character because of the actor’s mannerisms. Harlan’s actor is incredible as well, loved him on Sleepy Hollow. Paris, Maghra, Sibeth, and Toad have great actors as well. So is Bautista as Edo. Only Haniwa and Kofun are horrible. Absolute garbage. Wren’s actress is okay. Still, all in all, great casting all around in this show. Can’t wait to see who season 3 will bring.

And they were not afraid to get rid of the existing cast either. Ballsy move, and didn’t feel all that much shock value oriented like Game of Thrones was, for example. I grew attached to a bunch of the ones that were killed off and would’ve never thought they weren’t mainstays. Truly incredible. Next season can’t come soon enough.

Although I do see the Maghra and Harlan romance crap coming from a mile away next season and that’s the only development I don’t care for. But even that, given the setting and circumstances will make for excellent television.

This is easily the best season finale of any show I seen in a while. Expertly done.

This is a very strange film. It purports to show the harmony between the homeless population of Isla Vista and the college students, yet, at the 15 minute mark, a male college student aggressively encourages Pirate Ray to smoke a cigarette through his eye socket (because Ray has a missing eye). The level of novel exploitation is palpable throughout the film, even if the students act like they are “helping” they really are just exploiting the homeless population for either entertainment or to make themselves feel like they are doing something positive. Even this documentary uses the homeless as a sort of side show attraction. HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT HOW WEIRD THESE PEOPLE ARE! ISN”T IT GREAT HOW NICE WE ARE TO THEM! Here’s a thought, try putting down the camera and actually helping the homeless. Videotaping some drunk college kid forcing an old man to smoke a cigarette through his eye isn’t “shedding light on the problem”. It’s exploitation, Pure and simple. On top of it all, this documentary is pretty boring to boot. Nothing is truly explained or researched, no answers are sought, no questions really asked, in some ways it is just an odd collection of clips, loosely linked because they contain some of the same people. It’s everything wrong about internet based amatuerization of the film industry. I only regret that I cannot give this film negative stars.

Great first episode and remarkable acting by David Tennant.

Saucer-People 9 points 3 years ago.

It took me a few moments to realise it was David Tennant, it almost felt as if he’d channeled the spirit of Nilsen - just extraordinary.
Kudos as well for casting Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins in the role of the Inspector and biographer - all three actors are at the top of their game and its such a pleasure to watch a British production of this high calibre.
As a teenage runaway myself, who lived on the streets and in London squats in 1983, the Nilsen story has always had a strange resonance for me. The ‘banality of evil’ label is so overused these days but in Nilsen’s case it is spot on. It’s been many years since I read Masters’ book but this opening episode really captures the atmosphere surrounding the case - can’t wait for the next episode.

Ferat Vampire (1982)
Saucer-People 9 points 3 years ago.

Back in the cold war of the 1980s, America may have had Christine, the psychopathic car but Czechoslovakia went one better with Ferat Vampire, a car that kills and drinks blood as fuel!
This is such an entertaining science fiction/horror film that is played straight but is so darkly comedic in an understated way. The director Juraj Herz is sadly little known in the English speaking cinema world but films like this and his Beauty And The Beast adaptation are wonderful and well worth checking out.

I went to a taping of this episode when I lived in California back ‘95’ It was supposed to be a pilot episode for Bud`s new show but it wasnt very funny and it didnt work well with the audience. So I guess the network canned the ideal. At least I got to see the entire cast in person including Steve.

Growing Belushi (2020)
Danz0 9 points 3 years ago.

Some pretty amusing television.

For a reality show it’s clearly a little over produced but I enjoyed it… Jim is actually a decent actor so it’s not always obvious how many takes they had but there’re way too many camera angles for most “live” one take scenes.

Anyway, it was funny and I’m looking forward to more.

Yellowstone (2018)
ibgabe 17 points 3 years ago.

This comment got me to finally give it a shot. Didn’t realize it was from the writer of Sicario and Hell or High Water (excellent film) … and now I’m four episodes deep at nearly 5AM and about to start episode five.

I’d even argue that SoA on horses is even selling it short. This is beautifully shot with complex story lines that I can already tell are going to be woven together beautifully. The first episode is a little clunky but it finds its footing quickly.

American Gothic (1995)

Brilliant, atmospherically creepy TV Series that went over the producers head enough to cancel it before a second season could continue this eerily devilish gothic tale of supernatural evil.
“Someone’s at the door.”

Saucer-People 9 points 3 years ago.

I’ve always thought American Gothic (along with Wild Palms, Nowhere Man and Dark Skies) was one of the most under-rated TV shows of the nineties. It was shown here in the UK when it came out but if I ever mention it to people who are old enough to remember it, I usually get blank looks.
Given the success of Twin Peaks and the X-Files, it’s even more strange there was no mass audience for it.
The fact there was no second series is a travesty given the quality of the acting and storylines.
I envy those who will be watching this for the first time, you are in for something very special.

Wow! Now this is how you do a pilot!

I love sci-fi/horror but never got around to Lovecraft, so I was somewhat concerned my lack of Lovecraft knowledge would put me at a disadvantage story-wise. While I am sure I missed winks and nods to the Lovecraftian universe, it in no way hindered my enjoyment of this series debut. So for those of you, like me, with little or no familiarity with the works of Lovecraft do NOT hesitate to strap yourself in for a hell of a ride. This one is definitely going on my must watch list.

I’m curious as to how so much absolute hate and bigotry and ignorance can be bounced back and forth, and it’s allowed here. Yet, when someone says something in a joking fashion or is getting along in chat or comment threads they get headhunted, muted, or possibly banned. This is by far one of the most ridiculous and inflammatory discussion threads I’ve ever seen here. People come here to escape what’s literally burning the world down around them and to find some entertainment. Take your personal politics and insults elsewhere, you’re mucking up everyones side-bar.
