Yes because it messes w/people’s perceptions which is a great thing imo.

Anyone who can watch more than two episodes of this show and tell me that they’re not at least slightly in love with LaKeith Stanfield is a damn liar.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

I fell for him before this show in Straight Outta Compton & Selma. His laid back demeanor is so cool.

Classic Wayans brothers comedy. Parody that pokes fun at all the ‘hood films & is just silly fun. Great rewatch movie since there are so many sight gags throughout.

I just watched the pilot & it’s pretty damn funny, albeit deals w/some serious themes. But hey, real life often is like that, serious & funny. Craig Robinson is hilarious as is the rest of the cast.

I agree - I think of her as a hacker working around the system. What she created is basically an early analog version of social media (that’s an extremely heavy lift if you’re not a tech or media company). She ran against Gavin Newsom in the recall election!

Just clarifying her first name. But she probably could just go by Emmy since it’s an unusual name.

Angelyne (2022)
expresso 2 points 1 year ago*.

Highly entertaining biopic about the 1980’s LA ‘fauxlebrity’ Angelyne - Emmy Rossum is great

augusts1 1 points 1 year ago.

She was never a fauxlebrity. She is a pioneer of doing what the Kardashians have done just on a smaller scale. She didn’t get anywhere close to being as famous or wealthy as they did since there was no social media back then. But she did use billboards to great effect to get her name out there.

Going to check this out since I love Emmy (which is what she goes by) & Angelyne. Thanks for commenting to bring it up in the current featured comments.

Men (2022)
augusts1 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

WOW wow wow. What a wild movie. Definitely a very creepy & tragic film for the main female character played brilliantly by Jessie Buckley. It’s definitely a slow burn but the last hour of this gets quite eerie, weird & frightening. If you’re not familiar w/The Green Man, shown throughout the movie, it will help to know about the symbolism of this mythological entity as it relates to the naked man in the woods & the end of the film. Most people will not understand the film w/o that knowledge. I knew of The Green Man myself, so I recognized the imagery in the film, but hadn’t really read up on it, which I did after watching this. It helped me understand the ending so much more. There are also references to the biblical story of Adam & Eve specifically when Harper gets to the country house & the apple falls off the tree, she picks it up & eats it which is in the book of Genesis. It symbolizes new beginnings & the fall of mankind.

I’d also like to say there are many obvious examples of how men treat women like objects to be abused & mistreated. Each ‘man’ in the movie takes advantage of Harper in some fashion. It shows how men do this daily not realizing that they are overstepping boundaries w/women. There is just so much going on in this great film. It’s definitely not for the general movie going public though since it gets pretty weird at the end.

She would definitely fit in on “Dragula”. So much so, I guess my brain fooled me into thinking she already has been. lol. There HAS been a bit of crossover between the two.

augusts1 1 points 1 year ago.

True w/Jade Jolie going on Dragula last season. I didn’t think she even belonged on there since she wasn’t very monsterish at all. Plus she was not a pleasant person, reeking so much drama. So glad when she finally went home.

RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars (2012) S7 E1
alexisbits 2 points 1 year ago. (Contains Spoilers)

SO happy it’s back! All Stars, All Winners. It’s going to be hard to pick a favorite. They all look so good. But Jinkx managed to gain weight in all the right places, or maybe she just got a really great corset. Raja and Shea look much younger than when they won (gotta love a good surgeon). I’ve loved Yvie since “Dragula”. And who can resist Trinity’s backside (or that tuck)? They even brought in “Drag Race UK” winner The Vivienne! She’s got the weight of the UK on her shoulders, and off of everywhere else. And then there’s Monet. . . and Raven? lol.

I love the idea of no eliminations. Make them work equally hard each time. I was definitely surprised at the top two, though. And Trinity’s response? “Well, shit!”. lmao.

augusts1 0 points 1 year ago.

Yvie was not on Dragula. She was the winner of Season 11. I have so many faves in this cast. Monet, Shea, Raja, Jinkx & Yvie. That’s half the cast. Lordt help me! lol

Trinity’s response to receiving the glitter plunger is classic! So glad Raven was just a punch line basically.

RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars (2012) S7 E2

BEST SNATCH (game) EVER! 😆 Brilliant to have the queens do 2 characters, although it has been done before by the likes of Bob The Drag Queen & others. Surprised Raja wasn’t one of the winners, since she was a fave of mine in her characters but the two that did win were outstanding & funnier imo.

Love the blocking twist to the competition this season & the no eliminations twist too. They are always adding new twists to keep things interesting & fresh which I definitely appreciate. So happy they’re doing this all winners season. It is so fun to see the top winning queens of their seasons going up against one another. The level of drag is so high, it’s just fabulous to watch the artistry.

Absolutely. It just wasn’t the same without a live audience (though it was understandable). Even with the masks, the cheers of support were amazing.

That’s true. I still miss her being in the show. But having seen all three episodes, KeKe (apparently that’s how it’s spelled, I wasn’t familiar) is a good replacement. Still, I will miss Megan’s in your face attitude and revealing outfits. lol.

augusts1 2 points 1 year ago.

Yes Megan’s energy is fun & undeniable. She has that Bronx or Jersey vibe even though she’s from Houston originally. Keke has a softer approach but still quite personable.

Fanboys (2009)
augusts1 1 points 1 year ago.

Love this movie. It’s definitely for fanboy nerds 😎. Even though I lost interest in Star Wars long ago I still get the hilarious references throughout to the movies. I hadn’t heard of this till well after it came out from some acquaintance SW Heads on social media. Even then it took me awhile to check it out. So glad I finally did since it’s a lot of fun.

Two of the stars, Kristen Bell & Jay Baruchel, have gone on to have major careers in Hollywood. Who knew they’d do that from this movie? lol. Just goes to show you never can tell who is going to make it in the movie industry. The director hasn’t done much though since. He did a movie called Barely Lethal w/Samuel L Jackson & 3 young female actors which I haven’t seen but plan to now & two music videos for singers Lana Del Ray & Taylor Swift. He has some other projects in the works that will be coming out this year & later so we’ll see if he bounces back from laying fairly low.

Lordy lordy, season 3 is off to a rousing start! The losing house got railed on for not being ballroom enough lol. Was shocked they couldn’t bring it. Oh well, moving on.

I was thrilled to see an actual International house & thought they brought such a great new energy to the competition. I hope they go far. I was really shocked to see Aja Lebeija who was a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race a few seasons ago. She had retired from drag but obviously not from the spotlight. I hope they do well.

Calls (2021)
augusts1 1 points 2 years ago.

Riveting series. Only 13 minutes per episode, yet so compelling. Audio phone calls of horror paired w/the words being said on screen & visual abstract graphics. The actors do an amazing job of conveying the emotions through their vocalizations & the scenarios are well written yet ambiguous enough to keep you guessing as to what is going on.

I checked this out to see what Fede Alvarez the director was up to lately. I’d seen his kickass remake of Evil Dead years ago & got curious what else he’s been doing. Well this is his latest project & I must say it’s quite unique. The only drawback is that there is a lot that is unexplained in these scenarios like who the characters are & what their backstories are. I guess that’s all part of the thrill of it though, the not knowing much. But I’m definitely in for the ride since the 4 epis I watched are excellent so far.

This is great! They’re releasing a remaster in June. But it’s on YouTube. Natashia Lyonne is great, as usual. Peaches Christ is hilarious! Confirmed for a second season as of 10 May. Didn’t take long for them to make that decision.

augusts1 4 points 2 years ago.

Yea that’s great news. Love the tongue in cheek approach to the show. It gives lots of nods to it’s predecessors in horror movies which is fun too. I was never much of a fan of ‘Friends’ so I wasn’t sure what to expect from Courtney Cox since I hadn’t seen her in anything since that. Love Kinnear though so that’s what prompted me most to give it a try. Had a feeling if he was involved it had to be pretty decent. Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised w/CC & the rest of the cast.

Let the Wrong One In (2023)
alexisbits 5 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Pretty funny. You’ve got the usual tropes (Transylvania, cute older guy who kills vampires, sunlight and garlic). But there’s so much more. The brother/son who prioritized his family, those nasty garlic fries, the vampire bride who wore crosses, The Bunny (if you know, you know). Club Crypt looks like a fun place, vampires meet Hellraiser meet “Night of the Demons”.

augusts1 3 points 2 years ago.

I’ll put this on my list. Have you seen the vampire movie ‘Let The Right One in’? Totally serious & different from this but so good. The title of this made me think of it. There’s also a US remake called ‘Let Me In’ that’s good too but a bit different vibe to it than the creepy original.

Amazing film w/a top notch cast. Heard a lot about this from other movie buffs & finally watched it. It explores how far someone would go to save their family. Very intense movie w/torture/abuse/violent elements so beware if those things are a trigger for you.

Directed by Vilanueve who did Sicario, Bladerunner 2049, Dune & Enemy to name a few of his other movies, he is a master at creating atmosphere & drawing out the best of his stellar casts.

The Northman (2022)

He was Floki. Bill, the youngest, played a character named Erik in one of the Arn movies. The other brother, Valter, played Jon in 2 of the Arn movies. And their dad played King Hrothgar in the Gerard Butler version of Beowulf. The whole family seems to like acting in medieval/dark age period dramas.
