Amy Schumer: Growing (TV Special 2019) (2019)
Arcangel2020 4 points 3 years ago.

Wow. “Amazing” how Amy Schumer keeps getting offers from Netflix to turn her (terrible) standup routine into shows. Clearly little Ms. Schumer is relying heavily on her uncle (Senator Chuck Schumer) to influence the right people at Netflix to keep throwing good money after bad when it comes to not one, not two..but three shows.
Amy Schumer is not…I repeat NOT as funny as she thinks she is..her 5 minutes of fame stemming from the awful movie “Train Wreck” expired years ago, the movies she has been in since bombed big time at the box office and she is about as relevant today as a 5 day old Ham Snadwich left out in the sun.
She needs to finally understand that there are far more intelligent and funnier female commedians out there who are so much more better than she is.

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago.

She is incredibly unfunny, obnoxious, and revolting. I think SHE may be paying Netflix to have them air her, lol

Return to Oz (1985)
KidCreole 3 points 3 years ago.

Very brave to try and sequel such a classic but they did so surprisingly well and suitably dark, I loved this

snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago.

Yes, I obsessed over this film as a kid, so many iconic images. It’s still one of my favorites.

And yes, genius , managers make more money, but it is surprising when a simple store manager makes $100,000 more than an associate.

Superstore (2015) S5 E15
snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago.

I hate Amy. Everyone in the store should hate Amy. Thanks to this show , I learned that the average Wal-Mart store associate makes 30,000 yearly, while store managers make $102,000-$175,000 plus insurance , 401k and stock options. That pisses me off royally.

I Love You to Death (1990)
ShugarCat 3 points 4 years ago.

Extremely re-watchable! There is a chemistry on screen of not only the cast but the writers too. The cast did a fabulous job portraying their characters, the writing is great and the story is full of slap your knees as you laugh out loud comedy. I would describe the viewing experience of this film as “What a Hoot!”

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

I’d like to add that this is one of River Phoenix’s precious few comedic roles, and he nails it. Also, William Hurt and Keanu Reeves do an outstanding job as a pair of imbecilic junkie criminals.

By contrast to previous seasons, Season 4 seems a trifle aimless and meandering.

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

As a huge fan of previous seasons and a diminished fan of the present season , I have to agree.

Old Enough (1984)
snazzydetritus 3 points 3 years ago*.

I loved this movie as a kid, still like it, but the best thing about it to me today is the instrumental that begins and ends the movie! That, and the fact that the bitchy girl is played by an actress named Rainbow Harvest.

McBride does an incredible job casting his co-stars. They always play quirky characters that are hilarious.

snazzydetritus 4 points 3 years ago.

He seems to have a go-to stable of cast and crew that he relies on, like Cassavetes sort of…the same actors and directors/producers in this as in “Vice Principals”.

Roseanne (1988)
snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

Man I love this show but I despise Roseanne herself, the woman and the character - makes it hard to watch sometimes! But John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Sandra Bernhard…amazing and funny every time.

Dark Horse (2012)
Vigile -1 points 3 years ago.

I’m familiar with both terms. I stand by my original comment. The description here and on IMDB is of a black sheep. “Abe Wertheimer - an odious, purposeless, self-centered 35-year-old living parasitically with his parents (by choice) and working in his dismayed father’s business office (avoiding work while scoping eBay for collectible toys) - meets Miranda,”

dark horse: a candidate or competitor about whom little is known but who unexpectedly wins or succeeds.

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago.

And you really think that the writer/director didn’t know what he was doing when he named his own movie? And you know better?Laughable! That’s a whole lot of hubris on your part.

Dark Horse (2012)
Saucer-People 4 points 3 years ago.

The director Todd Solondz is an oasis of talent in a sea of gross mediocrity and pretty much every film he has made is well worth watching with perhaps ‘Happiness’ topping the bill.

snazzydetritus 1 points 3 years ago.

Agreed! “Life During Wartime” is also perhaps the most perfect sequel I have ever seen, coming close to being as concurrently brilliant as “Happiness”.

Dark Horse (2012)
Vigile -1 points 3 years ago.

You would think they would have figured out they mixed the idioms dark horse with black sheep before they finished shooting. Apparently not.

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago.

“A dark horse is a previously less known person or thing that emerges to prominence in a situation, especially in a competition involving multiple rivals, or a contestant that on paper should be unlikely to succeed but yet still might.” They are using it correctly. “Dark horse” is not necessarily a derogatory term, and the main character in this movie saw himself as a dark horse. The film is not centered around his family or himself viewing him as a black sheep…in fact, his parents enabled and coddled him to a degree.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
xerox 3 points 3 years ago.

This film is akin to ‘science of sleep’ or ‘eternal sunshine of a spotless mind’ in that it mixes moments of mundane, awkward reality with the surreal. The plot itself may not seem as linear as other films but this does not lessen the value or quality of the film

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago.

It is written by Charlie Kaufman, who I think also wrote those two films.

The Spanish Princess (2019)

Agree. Gregory tells a good story but accuracy is not a strong point with her. I like the series but it is total fiction.

As a BA in history I understand the annoyance at embellishments, but come on, after a time you just have to drop that jazz. This is called “period drama” for a reason. If you want the true story told A to Z there are several documentaries available for you to scrutinize.

This is, without a doubt one of the best movies i ever seen. Its now nestled in my top 10 of all time. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job highlighting the two girls friendship and relationship. I didn’t know of the story before watching and i urge anyone to watch this before reading up on the events. Its a sad story and one that has already died out long ago. And even though it put me into a post watch depression for a few days, i’m happy i got to see it. Don’t just watch this film, immerse yourself into the two girls lives as i did. God dam its so good.

But whites are the race majority of the U.S. In fact they make up 76% of the population of the U.S.

snazzydetritus 2 points 3 years ago*.

For now, yes they are. But 30.4% of the US is African-American or Hispanic, and the numbers are rising fast. Plus, those are just the statistics of documented citizens. White people’s exhibitions of anger and fear toward other races and ethnicities show how threatened they are feeling.

Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement (2016)
AnyCheekiBreeki 6 points 3 years ago.

There is one already, BLM calls it racist because they themselves are racists. BLM is not about what they present themselves as, they’re a covert communist organisation that disguises itself as an anti-racist organisation that cares about black people, when in reality they are the exact opposite. everything they did up ‘till now was either racist and/or endangering the lives of black people and even causing their deaths indirectly and in some cases even directly.
They also don’t represent the black majority’s wishes. recent polls have shown that more than 80% of black people wants the same level of policing or higher, definitely not lower which is what BLM is aiming for by demanding the defunding of the police.

I completely understand what a textbook example is. Which is why I was wondering if you were using the term literally, because it doesn’t apply figuratively, in my opinion. I’m kinda confused why you’d get so upset at me discussing semantics with you after you already devolved this conversation by trying to explain away the hundreds of white nationalist terrorism murders as “mass murder”. Do you not enjoy discussion? In fact based on your logic you’ve admitted that BLM is correct to call out the racist murders by their fellow citizens, and you’re just attacking the messenger because you have no rebuttal to their points on race inequality.

snazzydetritus 6 points 3 years ago.

he/she who calls themselves doctor who got upset, as Trump gets upset, because their argument and opinions were called out as weak. They failed to mention the side of the situation that entails whites’ systematic terrorism and torture of other races and classes for thousands of years. And some ancestors of those oppressed people who have had all that terror and pain passed down in their collective unconscious are only now reacting to it because trying to get their representatives/the law to help them has proven either futile or dangerous. I’m not saying violence to people is necessarily right, but most of the damage done is property damage, and some people deserve to know what it feels like to have no property, as many people in this capitalistic society would put their property above their families if it came down to it.

Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement (2016)
doctor who 3 points 3 years ago.

Define “terrorists murders”. Terrorism and mass murder are not the same. Mass murders are just to kill, no ultimate outcome required as most mass murderers plan to die in the act. Terrorism is the act of doing something to people to put pressure on a third party in order to achieve a goal.

snazzydetritus 8 points 3 years ago.

…what you defined as terrorism is exactly what white people started doing the minute they realized they were no longer the race majority of the U.S.
