Another movie with potential, ruined by Gal Gadot. #notmywonderwoman

I like it - it is different. Think “Sin City”, with the pacing of “Robot Chicken”. Kind of has a noir-ish, yet 80’s vibe. Works for me!

Neat little short for Hebru Brantley’s first foray into film. The puppets by Jim Henson studios and lighting give a seriously 80’s touch to it all. Auntie Opal (Jasmine Cephas Jones , https://www.primewire.li/tv/1363414-watch-blindspotting) is a cutie.

I dont mean to offend anyone. I am not into rap or hip hop that doesnt make me bad or you bad because you like it. Pick a music you didnt like no matter what it was and put it into every show that you see or interact with even where it doesnt fit. Sometimes blue doesnt look good on a person but the blue sky is still beautiful. i am just not a fan and dont like hearing it at every turn. not everyone will like what you might.

aus1r1s 1 points 2 years ago.

No I totally hear that, and trust me, right there with you for the amount of hardcore rock and techno that I feel like has been overused in a lot of martial arts movies and TV - everything from Mortal Kombat, to the Matrix. Still, I enjoyed both of those. I guess I don’t understand why race has to be thrown in here? Just as there’s a ton of Americans, of all races, that are into K-pop, I don’t think it’s fair to say Hip Hop music targets any one race or demographic.

I love martial arts. I would really like this show if the rap music didnt exist so much in it. It just doesnt fit to me. This show would be great if the music wasnt targeting a certain race and wasnt annoyying every step of the way because of it

What are you on about? It’s fine to not be a fan of a genre, but Hip Hop and martial arts have been intertwined for decades now. I’m most disappointed they didn’t get the RZA to produce the tracks, and there’s not a Wu Tang Clan cameo. You’ve obviously never been to the Bay, where this series takes place - Hip Hop is easily the most popular music in the area. Besides that, “targeting a certain race”? The actual musical artists in this series are pretty diverse, and Hip Hop is America’s biggest export since baseball. There are Hip Hop scenes From Beijing to Bangladesh, Baghdad to Belize. Where do you live, a cornfield in Iowa? You do know that statistically, the most sales of Hip Hop records in America are to 15-19 year old Caucasian females, right?

AM I the only one who didn’t realize they are chanting his name and actually singing in the music until the end credits of the last episode? Haha. I totally missed it, but it was so very clear at the end.

Same! Will have to revisit previous episodes and see if there’s a difference.

All of Us Are Dead (2022)
Themoo 5 points 2 years ago.

Easily on par with Train to Busan. The first episode gives us an introduction, and from there on out, it mostly holds an amazing pace for the next 11 hours. When it comes to the very defining films and shows of the zombie genre, South Korea is leading the way, bar none. Nothing from the US or UK comes close.

aus1r1s 1 points 2 years ago.

I totally agree.

I just binged 8 episodes - you get emotionally invested in the characters. Superb writing and acting for a zombie flick, better than most Hollywood zombie fare we’ve seen recently. 9.5/10, highly recommended and binge worthy. This and Archive 81 has me hopeful for what we’ll see with series in 2022.

I like when a background is given for what could cause the virus in a Zombie flick - in this case, they’re spot on with the very real parasite Toxoplasmosis Gondii (when Lee is writing on the chalkboard) being something that with a few mutations could very well lead to zombie like behavior.

Team America: World Police called… They’d like their puppet back.

Seriously cool sets for a homemade project, but I struggle to find this compelling - it’s not funny, the dialogue is yawn. Not sure I’ll give ep. 2 a shot.

Have to question some of casting choices but lost tape storylines is a fav of mine so well try to enjoy this.

aus1r1s 6 points 2 years ago.

I thought the casting was spot on and totally on point - what bothered you about the cast?

If I had any gripe, and this is pulling at straws, one of the scenes in the corner bodega circa 1994 showed modern packaging for Mac and Cheese, and McCormick seasoning.

Otherwise, even the Mt. Dew can in the Jess interview scene was the 90’s era design - you can tell that they went all out to be authentic.

Mamoudou Athie, Dina Shihabi,Evan Jonigkeit, Ariana Neal, and Martin Donovan are all brilliant actors and played the hell out of these roles. Not to mention the rest of the cast.

I have to disagree here, I think this was the best one of the series, by far.

#NotMyLeon The worst thing about this movie is the casting. Most of the cast do not look, or behave as they would traditionally from the games. How hard is it to do that? The sets are great(even if underutilized), but the awkward song selections, and comedic moments abruptly break the tone too often. Closer here, but still misses the mark. Better than most of the Jovovich W.S. Anderson films for at least trying to adapt the source material more faithfully. 3/5

aus1r1s 0 points 2 years ago*.

I agree the Jovovich films were garbage, and had little to do with the games, but couldn’t disagree more on the cast - I think they were great in this, and a lot more believable than Mila as a super agent lol. This is a solid film.

Neal McDonough as the doctor is perfect, he’s a great actor. Chris and Claire and Jill are all great. Leon is something of an interpretation of the game Leon, to be sure, but the game Leon was just as clueless at the beginning of the game, which I think they captured here.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
aus1r1s 1 points 2 years ago*.

Nice to see the film actually have something to do with the games, this was great.

Much happier with the casting on this as well, Mila was dry, boring, and not compelling as a character, not to mention looking and moving nothing like an elite operative would. Felt the same about her, as Tobey Maguire as Spiderman- horrible casting that ruined favorites of mine. Was a huge fan of the games (and comic, in the case of Spiderman). In contrast, these characters feel a lot more real and believable. Interesting interpretation of Leon, not what I was expecting, but capturing the game character’s naivete nonetheless. I think it works.

Good to see R.E. (and Spiderman, while we’re at it) finally redeeming these franchises, and making something halfway decent.

The cinematography on this is a lot better too, and uses actual color as opposed to that dreary monochromatic “Twilight” blue look. The zombies, police station, and mansion look awesome, and capture the atmosphere of the early games.
