Charlie Sedgley believes steam locomotives are the closest thing mankind has come to creating a living human being. They eat coal, they drink water, they sigh, huff and the chuff. Charlie and a group of train romantics known as the Midwestern Railroad Preservation Society are trying to recapture old glory in America’s rusting industrial heartland. There are 16 trains at the Midwestern Railroad Preservation Society, most from the first half of the 20th century. Charlie estimates it will take thousands and thousand of hours to get them up and running — which is why he measures in years, not days. He admits that he is chasing a faraway dream. But he believes.
