Details:

In the heart of the Kashmir Valley lies picturesque Lake Dal, famous for its winding waterways, which run through a dreamlike landscape. This region in Northwest India, situated at a height of 2600 meters, has a very varied history. It is strongly influenced by the different peoples that have settled by the lake. A unique cultural landscape was formed during the course of the centuries and with it traditions, like walnut carving and skilfully decorated houseboats, which today are often used as hotels. With the first rays of sunlight, wooden and colorful “shikaras” (long boats similar to gondolas), bring Lake Dal to life. In this documentary, Ali Mohammed Bhat takes us with him through the seemingly exotic everyday life of the Hanjis, the boat people that live with and on the Lake Dal.
