Details:

Doug Miller has just become old enough to drop out of school, which he plans on doing. He figures his life will be so much better working at a full-time job than going to school. He also figures he is doing his working class parents a favor in dropping out as he can move out, freeing them of responsibility for him and giving their family more room in their already cramped house. Although he himself did not get an education and has turned out all right working the same job for twenty years, Doug’s father would rather he stay in school, but won’t stop him from dropping out. As the oldest among his buddies, he is the envy of his peers. But Doug finds that the employment requirements are much different than in his parent’s day, as he moves from one dead end job to another, that is when he can find a job. Beyond whether Doug can figure out that he needs a clearer career plan to get where he wants in life, others around him, such as his friend Carlos, may want to follow the lead that Doug has set without knowing the full picture of what Doug is truly experiencing.
